Christians - question for some of you that have a generic signature in each of your messages?

It usually says something along the lines of "pray and ask Jesus into your heart and you will be saved"

So my question then is, is Jesus some tooth fairy type of diety to you that you can just do something and He must comply.

If one of the 50,000 atheists on this board simply prayed that prayer, you mean to tell me that they would spend eternity in Heaven?

Don't forget that we need to repent and God causes repentance. You would do well to not lie against the Lord and erase that statement from your posts and instead speak the truth and let Gods truth work on them.

Update:

by signature, i just meant that people copy and paste a generic message into their posts that don't even relate to the question being asked most of the time.

Also - repentance is done IN the heart but it comes from God. Nobody is going to repent because a Christian tells them to. People repent on Gods time.

Christianity is about faith and what you believe.

The apostle Paul mentions this saving gospel in the following verses:

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; (2) By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

So he preached a gospel unto the Corinthians and that gospel saved them. What was that gospel? Christ died for your sins, buried, and then rose again on the third day.

If you believe that gospel then you are saved. It is not a question of repenting from your sins or asking Jesus into your heart. No prayer or ritual or work of any kind will save a person, but only faith in the finished work of Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 1:17-18 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. (18) For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Paul was sent to preach the cross of Christ, and it is the power to save all who believe in it. Since God gives us salvation as a free gift then it is impossible to lose it. Notice that the gospel that Paul preaches comes directly from God.

Galatians 1:11-12 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. (12) For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Thus Paul is able to say about salvation and the free gift of God the following:

Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

So faith and not works is what saves.

Galatians 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

If we could earn our way into heaven by doing good deeds/works then why did Christ die on the cross? What purpose would that serve unless He had to for a reason.

repentance comes from the heart and only you and THE Lord know what's truly there or your intentions. You cannot simply say I love you to a woman and boom you're in love. I have no idea what a signature is by the way. lastly, thou shall not temp The Lord your God. You cannot barter with God and say well if you do this I'll do this. It's like giving your little brother a BIG nickel for little wittle dime. you can fool him but not the other way around.

Look, even I know their answer to this one. You can't simply say a prayer and be saved. You have to actually want the Jesus character to live in your heart... he's very small so you wont even feel him in there.

I think you misunderstand what their words are meaning, and define them too specifically.

Forgive others as I have forgiven you.
