Why do my hands still smell like onions?

I work in a fast food restaurant, and we use two different kinds of onions, purple/red onions and yellow onions. The yellow ones get sauteed; not sure if that makes a difference or not. Even though I wear disposable gloves whenever I'm handling the onions (and other foods) and wash my hands thoroughly, my hands inevitably smell like onions for hours, even a day later. What's the reason for this? It's not a overly strong smell, but it's there, and it annoys me somewhat, lol.

The thing to do to get rid of lingering smells on your hands is to buy one of those metal soap bar looking things like the one in my sources. Rub your hands on it like it's a real bar of soap and it somehow magically works!

    Onions are stinkers. :P

This might be a rumor, but apparently rubbing your hands on your faucet in your sink make the smell go away, but it has to be stainless steel.

Apparently, you can even buy stainless steel soap. It's sold at hardware stores. It gets rid of all sorts of funky smells.

Probably something to do with it's chemical properties.

Squirt lemon/lime onto your hand, it usually takes away the smell of things.
