Since horse racing is cruel and people are only there for money?
How come the New York Racing Association has introduced this lovely new fantastic anti-slaughter pollicy.
Basically to summarize any owner or trainer that uses their facilities are found to directly or indirectly have sold horses to slaughter houses will have their stalls permantely revoked. They are also supporting rescue and adoption efforts and are encourging people to find humane ways of dealing with horses that are unable to continue racing.
Now I know there are still parts of the industry that are not perfect but this is a step in the right direction.
Oh and here is the website -
I don't other people do though and I completely disagree and i posted this to prove a poitn. I love horse racing, its the best sport out there.

yeah for new york!
you have no idea the number of times i was asked to take a horse from the track ...only to go there and find the stall empty because some gyp got there first witha couple hundred bucks and a trailer and took the horse to thurmont or new holland for 7-800 for meat.
ps. euthenasia is not an option for animals being sold for meat. YOU CAN NOT EAT MEAT THAT HAS HAD SODIUM PENETHOL injected into it. so that means if the horse breaks down, he is supposed to be transported to a kill sale and then to slaughter? so that his cheap *** owner can squeeze another couple hundred bucks out of his pain and suffering?
(Does anyonew here actually know how they kill? in Mexico it is by far the most inhumane, backwards, primitive, worse then anything i can think of way of killing a horse. so for those of you that keep saying we need slaughter houses...or it is just the way of life, to slaughter animals after they have served there useful lives...you are as inhumane as the people who actually cut their throats)
i worked at the track for years and the horses are either taken to the back of the backside, or out of their stalls and in the shed and put down. there is a holding area in the back of the race track. if the horse has to be put down, because of a catastrophic accident...no one is trying to keep them alive to take them to the sale. they are immediatly euthenized.

It seems to me that alot of the answers to this question have sterotyped people in the industry. It is terrible news, all of it! The horses death and the fact that it will slowly ruin the industry as it has in Australia. Jumps racing is only allowed in 2 Australian states and unless the death stats are kept down and betting and attendance up than it will get canned all together. And thankfully the industry is doing all it can to keep the sport going. An international investigation into the sport needs to be done, to make it safer! There are alot of factors that affect the game, breeding, tracks, jumps etc. As we are all facing the same fate if something isnt done! Unfortunately there are quite a few bad eggs in the industry that do do it all for the greed, but there are too many people involved that do love horses and the game to paint the whole industry with that brush!! I've worked in the industry for a fair while now and cant think of anyone in particular I know that is doing it for the greed, it costs way to much money!!! We love horses and we love racing! Also its not "greed" that is saying this but in most cases it is not commercially justifiable to keep a horse with a broken leg, and as harsh as that sounds that is how the industry works. It does work with money and well we cant have horses sitting in paddocks doing nothing and we cant always put a horse in a position where they can live life like that! Some people may think those comments are hypocritical but its hard to truly understand unless you work in this industry, and I found that out myself.

Seems like a rule made by the ignorant for the ignorant!
What happens if a horse breaks down very badly and euthanasia would be the best thing?
As there are no horse slaughter houses in the US how can owners/trainers sell them for meat?
Does this mean that no ex racehorse can go to an auction if this is so then the shelters are going to be full of racehorses.
Like many rules thought out by people trying to placate the ignorant, there has been little thought in this matter.
What is to stop owner or trainer selling their horses to me for a nominal price and me selling them on for slaughter?
There are many things very wrong with racing in the USA - allowing the use of drugs for one but generally racehorses are treated well.
If you take the average there is more money lost in racing than there is profit. Yes, top horses do win and, go on to earn money at stud but, in general for every horse that covers its cost there are hundreds that loose owners money.

I think this is a wonderful idea because sending them to slaughter houses when they are no longer useful is one of the biggest problem in the horse racing industry! And to any one who says that it's impossible to send a horse to a slaughter house sense there are none in America. Have you ever heard of stickin' em in a trailer and takin' em to Mexico or Canada. Any one could easily say I'm moving and bringing my horse, I just bought this horse for m daughter, etc. There are people out there who see horses as meat! Border patrol cant search the horse and go yep there takin him to slaughter! A horse about to be slaughtered looks just like one your takin to your house! Please think in the mind of the criminal and not in the mind of a horse lover if we want to solve these problems!
God Bless!

another amazing fantastical idea from new york. do the homeless get a slaughter free option.? how many people are put down every day in society as they are deemed criminal malfunctioning. diseased, intellectually inept. or simply second class. iraq civilian population are used for slaughter practice by the army . yeahhh to peace and love for all creatures. remember how can u be better than a animal if u think its ok to kill them and then eat them.

I honestly, can not stand horse racing. thats just my opinion.
even if theres a anti- slaughter policy, doesnt mean they wont find SOME way to get rid of their horses.

Really shows how little you know about horses that you think racing in itself is cruelty.
