When referring to asians why do people ignore indians ?

Perhaps the term "asian" is linked to those from just central Asia =/

Because the indians have their own race, People use Asians to classify chinese and japanese along with koreans

The cultures are very unique so informed people should not be confused between them. Each country has its own special history and contribution, so clearly no one should be ignored.

I normally associate Indians with Asians more so than any other

because indians are referred to as "brown" :P

no one ever knows if your talking about indians with feathers in there hair shooting cowboys or the Hindu type.

How about all whites? Italian, British, French,German,Dutch, Spain, Do they separate i'm French or i'm German etc.
