Bonsai Tree Identification - Tough one?
Hello,
I bought three small bonsai at a local nursery and the nursery owner only described them as "gree tea" like and could not give me a proper name. The trees are fairly small with mainly exposed roots and apparently come from Taiwan. The are also reported to produce very small flowers. The tree leaves look very much like Chinese elm leaves. Can ANYONE tell me what the true name and taxonomic name is?
PS, this tree in no way is a Fukien Tee. I have one of those. Tree appears to be shrub-like and grows fast.
Thanks for the quick replies, but both answers have no value. There should be someone, some Horticulturalist who knows what this plant is?

The only one close to the name you were given is the Fukien Tea Tree. It originated from southern China and southeast Asia area. Its leaves look like the Chinese elm and are small, making for a nice bonsai specimen. The botanical name is Ehretia Micropylla (Buxifolia). Your bonsai leaves are serrated on the edges but this may be from the fact that there may possibly be a couple different varieties of the Fukien Tea. Fukien Tea's make for good indoor bonsai as well as outdoor as long as the weather stays above 65 degrees (they don't like cold temps) They almost continually have white flowers on there canopy when the tree is healthy. Here is a picture link of an in "training" Fukien Tea in somewhat the same style as yours are. Note the exposed root structure....

Bonsai Kittens..... heavily nevertheless, many trees works. i'm not sure what Serrissa Foetida feels like if allowed to improve wild, yet that would desire to be a bush. My own familiar is Acer Pamultam even nevertheless that's a tree.

If you want to maintain the "miniature" size, you should prune the roots and repot in bonsai-type container. http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=...
