LOVE: what do you think of?

when i listen to old songs, especially Egyptian ones, i feel how much these people mastered love, they reinvented it, the woman in her songs, showed submission to man, cozshe knows that in the core of her submission to man, lays her strength, but nowadays

all you hear in songs is just how strong the woman is without her man, and how much she wants to get away from him, old songs show how much tolerance and forgiveness that lovers once had,

People at these times, learned how to love

and now, we learn how to say good bye

i would be pleased to see your comments, any personal experience

Update:

@ Zoser: I completely agree with you, that golden era after World War II, there was a very noticeable reniassance in cuclture,a rts, and feelings of humanity.

@ Eman G: lol yeah listen to the new song of Sherin :

- A5eran etgarra2t, a5eran ana delwa2t, ha3alli sutii 3aliik.

ha2ollak en ana fo2t, wenni ana ma sadad2t, a5las mn 7ubbi liik.

compare it to Fayrouz's song:

-Shayef el ba7er shu kbeer, keber el ba7r ba7ebbak.

shayef el sama shu b3eede, ba3d el ba7r ba7ebbak

kebr el ba7r w bo3d el sama, b7ebbak, ya 7abibi ba7ebbak.

I agree, there does nee to be more tolerance and forgiveness in relationships...if there was, I'm sure the divorce rate would be a lot lower than it is today.

These days, as soon as any disagreement or challenge pops up BAM, let's just give up and draw up the divorce papers.

Women also try to reject the idea of marriage, they convince themselves that they don't need a man...

This is, of course, wrong, because Islam tells us that family is the basic and most important unit of society.

I believe that neither man nor woman was made to live without the other.

Back then, the Family was much stronger.

HOWEVER, the thing you fail to take into account is that many women were "submitting" against their will, in unhealthy relationships...it was not legally or socially acceptable for a woman to end a marriage on ANY grounds...(abuse, etc)

The vast vast majority of the songs of back then were written by men, and were very idealistic...

Let's take Fairouz for example...she was a very oppressed and troubled woman...her husband and his brother controlled her every move and all of her money...she wasn't able to have any money of her own and she didn't even know how much money she was making...

and by the way, she and her husband ended up separating.

    http://www.fact-archive.com/encyclopedia/Fairuz

I see nothing wrong with "better without him" songs because as we know, it's not only women's characters that have degraded in recent years, but men's characters too...in America there is little left of what you would call "men", so it shouldn't be a wonder that women are left with solitude as the better option in many cases....many American men these days are deadbeats...or at best, they sit at home while the woman works for the money...

I think we need to reach a balance....while we should put great emphasis on the preservation of the Family, we should also not reject individual needs...over the past decades we've shifted from one extreme to the other...

I do not believe it's right to blame feminism for problems, those of you that say you "hate" feminism, must do some more research. The type of feminism you're referring to is a type of feminism that has become dominant only in recent decades (since the 60's)...feminism is far more complex and diverse than this sub-brand of Individualist feminism....

there are many women who support women's rights on a basis of DIFFERENCE in regard to men...and don't aspire to be be equal to men whatsoever...what they're aiming for is for women's needs to stop being shoved to the side...for women to no longer be regarded as the inessential and unimportant....this type of feminists can be called Relational feminists and are far from the man-hating, combat-boot wearing femi-Nazis you have in mind..they are family-oriented women who seek rights and privileges not only to elevate themselves, but to better their families....(Individualist femi-Nazis have, in fact, done some damage, and that is why I believe we "normal", family-oriented women need to take over feminism)

I'm not so sure there is such thing as a "Golden Era" EVER....every era has its good and bad....we tend to look back on certain eras as "Golden Eras", as utopias, wishing we could escape the problems of our own era, longing for the "good 'ol days" is an easy way out, in order to avoid confronting the problems that face us today. (btw....post WWI is the days of the League of Nations mandates [the divying up of the former Ottoman Empire by the West] and Ataturk---not too "Golden" from a Muslim/Arab perspective :) )

there are things to be learned, though, from history, and we should look back, not in longing, but critically, in order to improve ourselves...

men and women need to admit our dependence on one another and work together, rather than against each other.

today, we could use more lessons in love in forgiveness, but that doesn't mean there won't be some situations in which it is better to say goodbye...

    @Gaz: it's ok, I know what you meant ;)

In todays society feminism is such a big thing. Women and girls are trying to prove to people that they can act and be like men. They want to show everyone that they are there equals. We started to see this in the early 1900's with the suffragettes and then again during WWI when women started to get jobs because of the lack of men (they were all fighting in the war). After WWI feminism died down a bit but there was a resurgence in the 1960s and ever since then they just won't shut up haha.

Obviously we see this revive in feminism in the available media including songs which target a large audience.

I totally disagree with all this stuff and I hate how a women wants match herself to a man! We have many different physical/mental/emotional traits....so we shouldn't be compared. A women should stick to being a lady, and a man should stick to being a gentleman! I don't see anything wrong with that haha.

Even though I wasn't alive during Fayrouzs peak time I still prefer her over Shereen. Her songs have so much more significant meanings.

Source(s): egyptian brains :D @Keira: Yes, you are 100% right about everything you said!!!!! ...and just to clear things up i'm not trying to say that women should be completely disregarded, i'm just saying they should have limits in how they are treated in comparison to men.

we don't learn to say goodbye a reason is needed for that. those kind of songs are idyllic and most women will sit and listen and say awe i really want that kind of love, but, show them a man that can provide it. society, no matter where you are from has changed. women say good bye simply because they aren't happy. why should they stay if their life is miserable. i wouldn't call that a bad thing. a woman will always try to work it out first, a man will call that nagging. men will leave. i don't know why as i'm not a man. i'm guessing because they aren't happy either. women are strong and have to be especially when the man leaves. why should women show tolerance for anything less than mutual respect.

We used to have some songs before about how a woman needs her man, now we have women who sing that they don't love their man anymore, etc. I guess it's all because they learned some lessons and knew what the meaning behind men really is.

    Ya saba7 eltafa2ol :)

I think that love and romance are still existing , but we have big problems in our society such as : unemployment and rising prices which have affected our relationships and our behavior

    I'm always saying :

    L'amour,c'est comme un invité

    bien aimé,vient de nous visiter

    Pour quelques seconds

    parfois,pour des années

    Tout dépend sur notre volonté

    De le garder . . .

    Love is like a guest

Bleoved, who comes to visit us

    For a few seconds

    Sometimes for years

    Everything depends on our willingness

    To keep it . . .

I think songs these day maybe portray certain people...like maybe some women want to get away from their man, etc.

When I think of love, I think of the relationship between my fiance and I. Neither of us could live without the other, and I think that's what love is about :)
