I recently took a tour of a law school where someone asked if the school was theory or practice based...?

I realized this is a great question, but I've looked on many school websites for this information and short of calling every law school I'm looking into and asking, is there a way to find this out?

I don't know the question word for word, but it was something like 'is the school theory based or practice (hands-on) based?'

They are all a mixture of both. All of your first year courses are theory based except a research and writing class. However, some schools offer more in the way of practice orientated upper level courses. That is not to say however, that those schools do not also have plenty of upper level theory courses. Practice orientated courses are things like trial advocacy, pre trial preparation, contract drafting, will drafting ect. Most schools have begun to develop more of these courses because employers have basically told them it helps prepare students for the real world of practice.

Just look at the course listings.

you do not. countless states allow you to take the bar examination devoid of going to regulation college. although, you will possibly choose to apprentice at a regulation business enterprise. The states are: California Maine ny Vermont Virginia Washington Wyoming once you practice in the state as a legal expert for 5 years, you're waiting to coach to the bar of yet another state. although, i think of many might nonetheless require you to have an ABA regulation college coaching to coach, even after 5 years adventure as a legal expert. regulation college is greater approximately coaching you to think of like a legal expert, not studying the regulation, or perhaps understanding the thank you to be a legal expert. in case you have adventure in the legal field (which you will earnings from working at a regulation business enterprise) and dedication, you could extremely bypass the bar examination. in spite of everything, approximately 70% to 80% bypass the bar examination, and you will possibly be able to retake the bar examination back in case you fail. Many different professions have greater stringent sorting out standards (ie. CPA).
