What is a good, free, online, mass multiplayer rpg?

I suppose if it's a REALLY good game I might download something, but I would prefer not to.

Update:

What is a good, free, mass multiplayer, online rpg that I do NOT have to download anything?

There's a series of roleplaying sites known as "Galiavan". These sites are in a way fansites of anime and fantasy games taken to a new level. Basically, they are rpg forums that mix anything and everything.

You're storyline is developed by yourself, and conversation with others. The link i have referenced is an index of the sites that make up this chain RPG forums.

Email me if you have any other questions. I'm the character Ikai Boontai or Stratus on the sites.

Other than that I'd agree with those who have said Runescape (When Upper Levels).

Um this is going sound screwed up but just do runescape, it sucks when ur a low level but when you level up you can actually enjoy it there are also alot of ways to make money when your a noob also you could play adventure quest worlds which is basicly dragon fable plus adventure quest mashed up online it's a fun thing to do in your spare time. ps for runescape you may have to download java and for aqw you need latest adobe flash. In runescape you can become a member for 5 dollars a month but thats optional you can just stay a f2p in aqw there is a 1 time fee of about 20.00 dollars here are the links : http://www.runescape.com/title.ws and now aqw http://www.aq.com/

    You Could Try Guild Wars.

You have to pay for the software but it's free to play. It's a pretty old game at the moment so you could probably get a good deal on it.

if it's genuinely good, it's not free, and you probably have to download it.

if it's free, it's probably the same as the tens of thousands of free mmos out there. i learned this from experience.
