is anyone else having trouble getting a job that says theyre hiring?

ive been applying for jobs for a little over a month. i only applied for open positions. i dont even get a call back for an interview. most of them require no experience and i also applied for a few retail positons which i have 5 years experience in. i have a retail job now that ive been working at for 4 years. im just looking for full-time or overnight. im a college student and need a night job. since im out of school for the holidays i applied at several places and put anytime for all days, and holidays, etc. i live in louisiana, i know its gotta be the economy. i just want to know if anyone else is experiencing this where they live?

I am...but what I think is you got to get there at the right time. Not too soon, and def. not to late. Otherwise ppl will get there before you and take the spot that you wanted. And believe me this has happened plenty of times to me. Also are you doing follow-up calls? If not then maybe that's why you're not getting hired. Maybe there are other applicants that do their follow up calls and the managers hiring are impressed so they get an interview and then get offered the job. But at least you do have a job right now, a lot of ppl, including myself still don't. And that's better than nothing. But maybe you should write an resume and add it with your applications, go to this website for help: http://www.free-resume-tips.com/10tips.html But good luck to you in your search!

I'm 29 with an associates degree. i have a TON of scustomer service experience. I have had FOUR interviews with THREE diff. banks for FOUR diff. Jobs. the interviews went well all times, Did i get the job. Nope. it's bullshit. I'd really like to meet the person they hire. on top of that the economy is total crap. I know a lot of people who turn in all kind sof apps at lots of differnet places and never get a call back or anyhting.

You have to realize there are very few jobs available and thousands of laid off people near you. By me, the ratio is 1 job for 55 applicants. And whose to say that job isn't a $7.50/hr Wal Mart job?
