Question about gift card fraud.?
I own a Business and this is the second time it happen. A customer comes in and give me a gift card to pay for his stuff. I swipe the card, and the credit card machine dose not reads it. So I enter it manually and it ask to take an imprint of the card, but the only thing is that the card dose not have an imprint to take. I ask the customer that i need to make a copy of his ID and the card, and he decline to do so and just walks out. Is this a scam? One other thing that I notice is that the card had lamination over the it, and most gift cards i've seen dose not.

If the card is a branded gift card, eg Visa, MC or Amex, it would have raised numbers.
The machine wouldn't ask for an imprint if there was nothing to imprint.
The card being laminated was simply part of the scam.
If you have a number to call to report fake cards, call the number in.
