Would you think this is homophobic?

I was addressing a group of about 8 friends (predominantly an LGBT group) about what I think about the gay community, as a Baha'i (religion).

I said to them that, being a member of a Baha'i community that accepts same-sex relationships, I would hope to see the day when the LGBT community was at one with the Straight community; where the need for a LGBT community was none, and where no gay person saw themselves different from a straight person, and where no straight person saw themselves different from a gay person.

After I told them that, one in particular said I sounded like I wanted to convert the gay population (which I don't) and only one didn't start calling me homophobic. I guess this was before I introduced them to my boyfriend (and yes, I'm a dude), but do you guys think this is homophobic in any way?

I wanna know what I said that set them off.

Update:

| :

That's pretty much same speech I give anyone that asks me about same-sex marriage. I might have said "...where the gay community has no need to exist" or something like that, but I doubt it would have been changed much from that bit I wrote.

Thanks though =]

No, what you describe is what all gay rights groups should aspire for. Sexuality shouldn't be a divisive subject.

You're not homophobic at all! Some gay people are just so sensitive and quick to cry "homophobe" when it really isn't necessary. Just like when blacks cry "racist." I'm gay and I agree with what you said completely!

BTW Baha'is rock!!! A kid did a presentation on that religion in a religions class I took, and there's a Baha'i temple close to where I live! I've always been wanting to go!

I would have to hear verbatim what you said to judge it. I think if that many people said you were homophobic, then you're not telling us the whole story. But you sound like a nice fellow. I think they just misunderstood you somehow.

Maybe it was in how you presented it, but that didn't sound homophobic at all to me.
