    for a 40 amp draw, you need a # 8 Gage wire

    40 amps is a lot

    12 gauge would handle a 120vac furnace, 10 gauge for a 220vac furnace. It also depends on the distance it travels.

    8 gauge.

    Don't let anyone talk you into using 10 gauge.
