How do you confront someone in the workplace who is telling .....?

lies about you to your boss and you may get fired for them?

    My God....people and their office bvllshit. Can't people ever keep their pie hole shut?

    I guess if placed in that position, you should go have a private chat with your boss. Let him/her know what you feel is going on, and then set the record straight. I would take proof of whatever is not valid and make copies for your boss to place in your folder.

    You could then request you and your boss all have a private chat with this other individual and get to the bottom of what is going on. See if this person can substantiate what they've been flapping their gums about.

    I would not do anything until it becomes an issue. Perhaps she/he is trying to back you into a corner so that you will run to your boss and look like the bad one. If your boss does confront you on it ask her to explain how the scenario could be true. Put it back on her shoulders. The more positive and professional you stay about it the less likely it will be an issue for you.

    I would also stay away from the person who is saying lies about you if that is possible. She/He is obviously doing this to get a reaction out of you and if she/he is not successful that person may give up trying.

    Defend yourself to your boss first and fore most. Ask your boss for a moment of their time alone, state "It has come to my attention that _____ has been saying things about me that are untrue and I find offensive. I want to bring this to your attention because I do not want to sink their level. If there is anything you hear about me that you feel we should talk about please bring it to my attention immediately so that I can give you the truth. I am here to do my job and do my job well. It is a shame that I have to be pulled away from my work because of ______'s lack of work ethic."

    Your boss will take it from there. Everytime this person says something you boss is going to think, hmmm, this person really is digging a hole under you and that they are trying to make themselves look better.

    I wouldn't confront this person directly as it will make you look defensive like you have something to hide. If this person is not attacking you personally but only in a work related sense than don't be pulled into their game. If they were to attack you personally than say something in a calming manner.

    Always be ready with your defence evidences (emails, logs, documents..etc.), and if it comes to your boss accusing you of something ask for an evidence for such an accusition, if they fail to provide evidence and you have an evidence that you are ok, no one can harm you unless they are intentionally being unfair, then they don't deserve your effort working with them.

    The trick is you don't. Because then they will just say "She is harassing me because I reported her bad behavior, see how bad she is!"

    Ignore her, ask your boss what improvements he would like to see in your work, and then make those changes. DO NOT get involved in petty backstabbing and arguments over who said what. It isn't worth it and it doesn't help you keep your job any.
