(1) can they absorb same amount of food
(2) if not, which fungus is more effective at absorbing nutrients

Very interesting question, let's see...
1) No (if yes this would be a very boring question)
2) Absorbtion is at least partially (if not totally) due to surface area. With the same mass but different thicknesses, the long and thin fungus will have a larger surface area and will be able to absorb more nutrients.
