Lack of knowledge. They don't realize that we all have different brain chemistries that respond to psychiatric medications differently. Some people also view it as treating the symptom instead of the problem, when in many cases, the chemical imbalance IS the problem.

I think the more open we are about mental problems, i.e., depression/anxiety, the more society will stop telling us not to take medications for it. I am poster-child of a woman who has suffered from depression my whole life.......it didn't matter what I did - think positive, take vitamins, go on vacation, get married, I was still depressed.

I sought help and got on an antidepressants and I feel alive and happy.....I am proof positive that the meds help me.....I wish I hadn't waited so long to help myself.

Because there are a lot of people that dont believe in western medicine. But that is just an opinion. If medication helps, then by all means take it! I have a pain disease and take pain killers and everyone in my life looks down on me and tells me that I dont really need to take them. Here is the problem, they are not in my body. They have no idea what i need and what i dont. My doctor feels I need them and I know I need them. So i take them. Plain and simple! I dont abuse them, I do really well with them and they help me with my pain. I simply stopped talking to other people about my health problems and medication. If those people had the same problems as I have, trust me they would take them too!

I have manic depression, and I tell my cousins not to take medicine. But they're only depressed. I do it depending.... I mean with depression I really don't think you should take meds. With severe depression I suppose it would help, but with life-problems, no. My cousins parents just divorced after his dad use to abuse his mom, and he left and had another family and all that, but he's seeing a therapist and he's doing better and going out with his friends and all of us [family] are behind him and his mom and siblings.

I just think it's nonsense. Meds did a lot of damage to me, and yeah it was my fault for stopping and taking stoppping and tkaing them, but I'm still against them.

I think it's people's own beliefs and such.

The people don't HAVE to listen to anyone. It's only an opinion, based on the persons own life and things they've gone though, that's all. We're not trying to harm them, or keep them from getting help.

Whatever you do, do not take any medication, it will ruin your life. Check out the ANTI-PSYCHIATRY movement, and take the natural route to solving your problems. There are better ways!!!!

Because psychiatry is quakery. It is a psuedo-science with no real basis for their scientific "facts"

I have heard other people admiring the effects the medication has on them and it is nothing more than placebo. These drugs are debilitating and health ruining. There is no real biological "mental illness" as well, it can not be scientifically proven. There are no tests that can prove you have a biological mental illness. It is a sham. Check out the video made by the CCHR's psychiatry- making a killing to learn more about this industries horrible empire
