Can anyone help with a sick Pom?

I have a 4 year old pomeranian... he has had diarrhea pretty bad since Saturday morning, and has been throwing up at least once a day. I haven't changed his food, and he hasn't been eating well. We've given him rice, and plenty of water, but I don't know what else to do. I'm terribly worried for him, but we can't afford a vet. My fiance just recently got laid off, and I am currently unemployed. We're making ends meet, but barely, so an added expense just isn't feasible at this time. What can we do to help our dog?

Update:

You say that I'm neglecting my dog, but I'm not. I've been calling vets, looking for payment options. I've spoken to them, they are all saying to give him rice and water. I'm doing what they are telling me. I have $10 to my name and a gift card to a grocery store. neither one is going to pay a vet. I'm doing everything I can think of, and as soon as I have money I'm taking both of my dogs to the vet. I can't take them because I have zero money. I am unemployed because of the economy, and my fiance just got laid off. I have 4 kids to feed. Taking food out of their mouths is very much not an option right now. All I was is some ideas to try to see if they help my dog.

Update 2:

okay, listen to me, guys. I am not giving my dog away or getting a "stuffed animal" and I know my dog isn't dehydrated because I've been watching him very closely, and doing the skin tests to make sure. He has been taking in plenty of fluids. I have called vets and spoken with them about the situation, and they all tell me the same thing. Not a single one of them has said to rush him right in. they've said to make sure he is eating plain things, such as rice, and to make sure he is drinking plenty of water, which he is. He's acting completely normal other than having diarrhea. I didn't come here to be attacked, I wanted help.

Update 3:

as for internet and TV, those come free with our house, because the landlord was locked into a contract. We don't pay for them, so can't cancel them. Already had our home phone turned off. I've begged family for the money to take him to the vet. I've asked friends for help. No one has the money. There is nothing that I can do. NOTHING. Most of the people I know aren't working at the moment, and the ones who are, barely make enough to cover their bills. We get $300 a week in unemployment, but that won't start for another week.

Update 4:

Thank you, Nnnn. I've already called and spoken with them, and I've been doing the rice thing, haven't added his normal food to it yet. He hasn't thrown up today, so I'm hoping he's getting better. We're still keeping a close eye on him, and trying what we can.

First off, get to the vet, or at least call one. You could ask about payment plans or clinics

    In the mean time...

    1) your dog should be fed nothing for at least 24 hours after vomiting

    2) after 24 hours start him on cooked rice and boiled chicken

    3) do this for at least 5 days and then SLOWLY introduce his kibble (start by adding a small amount to the rice/chicken and then increase a bit with every meal) for at least a week.

Vomiting and diarrhea for 4 days and he hasn't seen a vet yet? Sorry, hun, but you'll have to borrow the money. Diarrhea and vomiting are a recipe for major dehydration and are symptoms of serious illness. Dehydration in dogs can progress to a point where she will stop drinking and eating entirely and will have to be put on IV fluids, which is much more costly than taking her in now for a checkup.

I know the feeling, I'm 38 weeks pregnant, got laid off in May and can't find a job that pays equal to or more than my unemployment check (a meager $800 a month) and my husband doesn't make much either. But when our dog needs veterinary care we scrape up the money. Cancel the internet or TV for a couple months and/or borrow money.

    Hi Franky:

I have a Pom too and we are fostering another Pom. Call some one who breeds Pomerania's and ask them. I joined PomForum and there are a lot of Pom breeders that give a lot of advise on all sorts of things. Its free. When my first Pom was doing what your Pom is doing, we took him to the vet and found out that he had pancreatitis. I am not saying that is what your Pom has. Call your vet and tell him/her what is going on with you Pom and your financial hardship. Maybe he/ she will let you make payments. When you call ask to talk to a vet don't talk to the person that answers the phone. Please don't let your Pom suffer like this. Also depending on where you live there are places that will help pay or pay the whole vet bill.

No excuses, this dog should have seen a vet no sooner than Monday morning.

By now, the dog has got to be extremely dehydrated and in desperate need of IV fluids.

It is against the law to not provide vet care.

If you really want to help the dog, you will get in touch with a Pom rescue, or a no-kill shelter. You will surrender the dog because you cannot provide it with basic needs.

And next time, consider a stuffed animal.

Your dog is sick. He NEEDS medical care right away. At this point, he may die.

Your going to have to find a way to pay, borrow the money from a friend/family member or ask your vet and a payment plan. The little guy needs to see a vet, now.

You don't have an option. You have to go to a vet or your dog may die. Ask the vet if you can be put on a payment plan or try to find a clinic. They are usually cheaper. It is neglecting your dog if you just sit there and do nothing.

Your Pom is probably going to die if you do not get it to a vet now.

Pawn your computer and get going.
