College question please answer :) thanks?

ok so im currently a freshman in high school and I was wondering do universities or colleges only look at your semester grades or your term grades or both? Do they count both? Cause I know some universities you need all A's to be eligible for it. Do they count all 4 year of high school for that kind of thing. I am currently in no sports or after school activities. I might try to be in a club next semester though but im not sure. My grades right now are: Im just going to put the semester grade

Spanish-97

P.E.- 88

English- 98

World Geography- 89 (he hasnt graded this one paper but it shows as as 0 until graded)

Algebra 1- 92

Biology- 83

Art 1- 93

(has not graded art project yet so it shows as 0 until she grades it)

Im not bragging! Im just wondering if this is ok so far if I ever wanted to go to a top university or a good college in the future. Do colleges count freshman year?

Thanks and do you have ay college educational,ec. advice

Whoever told you that you need all A's to be considered for a college does not know what they are talking about. Granted that for colleges like Harvard and Yale you would need a perfect GPA to meet the standard amongst the other thousands of highly qualified applicants, but to think that a college will not consider you because you lack a 4.0 GPA is absurd. Harvard would never tell you not to apply because you lack a 4.0. As you will learn throughout high school, getting into college is far more than your grades and standardized test scores.

In regards to your immediate question, a college admissions office is going to look at your entire secondary school transcript, which is your finalized high school grades. Basically, the grade that matters is the grade that is recorded on your transcript, and if your school does not record term grades, which most do not, then a college will not even be aware of anything other than the grades at the end of the semester.

Some colleges do not hold your freshman year against you, where others look at all four years. The most important year for determining whether or not you would stand a chance at one particular college or another is your 11th grade year. Reason being, this is your last full year of high school before you apply to college, and your junior year is also when you begin to take the most difficult classes in highschool, whether or not you take accelerated classes like AP or IB. It is also the year when you will take the SAT/ACT.

Freshman year does count, but some colleges will not hold it against you if this year was not as hot as it could have been. Now, you certainly want to do the best you possibly can all throughout high school, but if you have an oopps in one of your freshman year classes, do not freak out and think your future is doomed. If you are a straight A student from 10th grade to 12th grade, but in your freshman year, you happened to have a 3.5, for example, it would not be the end of the world. If you start slipping anything below a C average, however, you are demonstrating that perhaps high school was more about having fun and enjoying life than it was about preparing for college. But, on the contrary, some students are on the latter end of the learning curve, and it takes them a year to figure high school academics out, and colleges do understand that.

Developmental Psychology - don't major in this unless you are prepared for another 2-4 years of college. You will need either a Masters in Social Work (MSW) or a PhD to literally do anything in this field. I wish I knew this 15 years ago. I would major in anything medical. The baby boomers are getting old and the medical field is booming!
