What are some common problems with '97 Dodge Avengers?

I just recently bought a 1997 Dodge Avenger. The water pump and the timing belt were just changed a week before I bought it. It's in REALLY great condition, and doesn't even look like a '97. Just wondering what are some things I should keep an eye out for....

i own a 97 model and the two main things that you mentioned are the most problems they give other than the transmissions in them, other than that the are good driving cars, mine blew a heater core out and i replaced it ,but other than that we put a lot of miles on it and it has been a good one,and i only paid around 650 for the car so i think i have drove my moneys worth from it,good luck and enjoy the holidays,

The steering is probably an alignment issue, but it can be caused by a lot of things. Have your power steering checked also. The hum in the engine could be a lot of things, but there is no way to guess with what is given here.

4cyl or v6? the rear ball joints go out. on the 4cyl's i would keep an eye on your throwout bearing. its also very common for the seals on the transmission to go out. ummmmmm.... my rear spoiler would always come detached... i dont know a lot about the v6's but i owned a 4cyl.

another thing that happened to me that i heard was common was the door handle assembly inside the door would fail, and you cant get your door open. but thats an easy fix.

good car i beat the crap out of mine and it treated me pretty good! happy avengin!
