how soon can a sheriff in nc issue a handgun permit?
i turn 21 this weekend and to celebrate i really want to purchase my first handgun. i dont have a conceal and carry license so i will need to get a permit from my sheriff. i was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible for a sheriff to issue the permit on the same day of the application?

Highly unlikely since you have to go through a background check which includes finger prints and a criminal history. It was 6-8 weeks before I got my first one back about 15 years ago. But when I applied in the county I live in now, I had it in 2 weeks. A friend of mine also applied but in a different county and had it back in 3-5 days. They are much quicker now than they used to be but with all the background checks having it the same day isn't likely.
