Current arguments about the Christmas No 1 song?

Don't you think that the Music Charts here in the UK are not worth anything anymore? Regardless of whether they are Christmas or any time of the year.

Once upon a time people couldn't wait for Tuesday lunchtimes to find out who is No 1 in the charts - now you have never heard of half of the acts in the charts. No one ever stays in the "top 10" for longer than a fortnight.

It's a shame ... perhaps I am hankering for the old days! I might be a 50 yr old granny but I still love music.

What do you think?

I totally agree. Charts mean nothing now except that Simon Cowell gets richer.

THe record companies don't give a toss about putting out decent music. They just turn out rubbish because they know they can make money by reissuing old albums on CD or putting together scores of Mum/Dad's Faves, Rock/Dance/Disco/ Pop Anthems or Xmas/Mothers Day/Fathers Day compilations with the same old songs on them.

Music is more throwaway now than at any other time.

The XFactor and similar programmes are a fantastic exercise in psychological manipulation of the masses. The amazing thing to me is that people fall for it and spend their money!

Getting rid of top of the pops really was a bizarre and wholly stupid move in my opinion. I've never really been into chart music but I enjoyed watching totp. Since its demise, I have no idea what is where in the charts and its given Simon Cowell the perfect opportunity to tell the public what they want (unfortunately, an overhelming majority of people are stupid enough to listen).

    RATM for chrismas #1!

    I totally agree lol!!

The stuff in the charts is complete sh*te, everyone sings it for a couple of weeks, then forgets about it!!

Im 14, but I think that the "music" my generation listen to is absolutely crap. Everybody hates the music I like because nobody else listens to it.
