Personal opinions on Klonopin and Lexapro?

My doc just switched me from a Paxil/Xanax treatment to Lexapro/Klonopin. The other treatment was working okay, he just wanted to raise my dosage and felt like Klonopin would be a better higher dosage choice for longterm. The Lexapro switch was my choice, just wanted to try something different and see if it worked better. Dropped the Rx off just now and was wondering, has anyone out there had any luck with these medications? Positives? Negatives? Thanks

I have been on both of these drugs at one time or another. I don't want to scare you, but you asked for honest answers... I was on Lexapro for a week, and it made my ears start ringing very, very loudly. I stopped taking the drug and while the volume of the ringing went down, it did not go away. This was 5 years ago, and my ears are still ringing. I know one other person this has happened to. My psychiatrist said she had never heard of permanent ear ringing as a side effect of Lexapro in 20+ years of practice so it is a very rare one, but be aware that it can happen.

I was on Klonopin for about 2 weeks. The Klonopin was great - for the first time ever I was able to fall asleep and stay asleep for a full 8 hours, and wake up feeling refreshed in the morning. My general anxiety level went way down, although my panic attacks did not (the Xanax was, for me, a better treatment for my panic attacks in conjunction with cognitive behavioral therapy which I strongly suggest).

The reason I had to stop taking the Klonopin was because I developed thrombocytopenia, which is an uncommon side effect of the drug but does happen occasionally. (Can you tell I'm the queen of bizarre side effects?) Thrombocytopenia is a drop in the number of platelets in your blood which leads to decreased clotting. After about 3 days on the Klonopin I started developing bruises all over my body - my legs, arms, even on the tops of my fingers - and I knew I wasn't hitting myself on anything to cause them. The bruises were caused by the drop in platelets, and within 3-4 days of stopping the medication my bruises faded and I didn't get any more.

If you don't develop some bizarre side effect like me, though, I would recommend the Klonopin because it worked wonders for my ability to sleep. The Lexapro I can't say because I wasn't on it long enough to feel any antidepressant effects, but I have a lovely ringing in my ears as a memento from the week I spent on it. Better luck to you!

Lexapro was okay as far as keeping my mood stable, but I absolutely could not have an orgasm, which was really frustrating because I was still able to get turned on. I just couldn't get satisfied, ya know? Well anyway, I take Zoloft now at a low dose and everything is working fine in the sexuality department (except the lack of a man, but who needs one when you have lots of batteries, right? lol).

I took Xanax for a while too, but the burnout on that once you stop taking it is so terrible....but it only lasts a day or so, so hang in there.

i admire the respond given by applying MHnurseC, as i'm additionally a psychological well-being nurse. The scientific expert is providing you with Klonopin on your stress. The Lexapro is on your melancholy. you ought to permit the scientific expert understand in case you want the Klonopin in the process the day besides the fact that it makes you sleepy. in case you're having destroy-with the aid of stress in the process the day, he ought to objective a shorter-performing small dose of yet another anxiolytic (anti-stress med). I relatively have been taking Klonopin for 12 years, a small dose at night, and don't have faith it has injury me interior the least. keep your rfile recommended and the two considered one of you will paintings this out. i'm hoping he/she is a psychological well-being expert. good luck.

when I went from xanax to klonopin I kinda liked it beacause I was more level. Xanax has a shorter half life and u peak fast and fades quick giving you that sense of euphoria "makin it very addicting" Klonopin didn't give me that sense of euphoria i just took one pill a day and I i never felt anxious it was just level all the time, never felt high or coming down like I needed to pop another pill like it was with xanax. What i didn't like about it was it kinda changed my personality it made me who I really wasn't it was like i was a fake. I evenually stop taking them and even with the tapering they withdrawls r more severe on the physical side body spams muscle weakness. I still take a xanax everyknow and then 2 calm me down but I don't want to be sleepy all the time

I used Lexapro for years for anxiety and had little trouble with it. After several years, I developed a tolerance to it, though, and hd to switch to Cymbalta. With any of these medications (they're both SSRI's) everyone reacts differently, though, because everyone's body chemistry is different to start with. Its a matter of finding the one that works best for you!
