here's a tip for you if you have an english saddle already-put the saddle on, take a sewing tape measure & have someone hold it where the 3 rd hole is on the billet straps (what holds the girth to the saddle), then run the tape under the horses belly & hold where the 2nd or 3rd hole is on that side of the saddle..whatever the tape measure says is your size!
Just remember to get a girth that has elastic on one side & allow for the stretch in it once on the horse

It depends on the saddle, if it's a jumping saddle then it will have short points whereas a dressage saddle will have long points and an all purpose could have either.
Get a tape measure and put your english saddle on your horse and measure the girth area about half way up the points on either side.
I didn't do that when I was getting a girth for my new saddle with my new horse, I was using a saddle with long points and my new saddle had short points. Took 2 trips to the tack shop to get a girth that fit.

Go to your local tack shop and say:
"My horse rides with a size 36-38 cinch. What size would this be with an English girth?"
Don't sweat it, tack shop employees aren't very busy. They'd be happy to help convert the numbers for you. ;)
