Android vs. BlackBerry Tour for College Student?
Hi,
I consider myself well-versed with cell phones, but I cannot come to a conclusion about the abilities of the Android vs. BlackBerry smart phones.
I know it's like comparing apples to oranges, but there are some features which are similar and could be of value.
I'm considering buying either the Motorola Android or BlackBerry Tour when my contract expires soon. I'm a busy college student who needs a smart phone! My friends with Androids love the functionality, but I'm afraid the hype will die off or issues may present themselves. The BlackBerry however, is reliable, stable and perfect for dealing with e-mails, etc.
Any thoughts? Which phone should I go for? Please provide logic behind your answer. Thanks!

I'm a huge fan of BlackBerry phones. My son just graduated from engineering college in May, and his BlackBerry held up for all five years with nothing more required of it than a couple of new batteries. BlackBerry phones are able to provide internet to your laptop if necessary, meaning that you can get internet practically anywhere that you can make a phone call. They have enormous battery life, and as you point out, it's a tried and stable platform. The new Tour has the touchpad (as opposed to the trackball, which was prone to wear), and I really like that.
I've supported both BlackBerry phones and the various HTC phones, and while HTC is good, the platform on which the Droid line is running is comparatively new (T-Mobile just brought it out about a year ago for their G1, and it does still have some issues). Plus, touch screens can be dicey, and the last thing you need when you're worrying about a test or a project is having your phone croak on you.
I say go for a BlackBerry; I have the 8900, my son now has the Tour, and we're both very happy with them.
