Is there a way to play a decent game of Risk with only two players?

Yes, some editions of Risk included a two-player variant where a third color was used. That third color could be used by the other player when one player finished a turn. You can download those rules from www.hasbro.com customer service. Look for an edition from the seventies or eighties rules.

It's not as much fun as when you play with a bunch. We shuffle and deal out the deck, you can make three trades, you get a man for each land and then you start the game. I will agree that it's not the best way to play, but it is teaching my son some strategies of the game. Besides, I'd rather play this way then not play at all. I hope that this helps.
