Taxation without representation...?

Since the vast majority of politicians that will be voting for or against the health care reform bill have admitted they have not read or had a chance to read the bill, is this taxation without representation?

How can politicians represent the will of their constituents if they act without knowing what they are voting on? Does this strengthen the inevitable legal battle that the Supreme Court will need to take action on?

Is this whole health care reform process only going to benefit the lawyers?

Update:

Penny, the problem is senators and representatives are NOT LISTENING. I have written my 'representatives and what i receive is talking points that are months old that they have changed their position on. And numerous 'representatives' have publicly said they do not know what is written in the bills and have no plans to read them. Summaries of bills are fine for an introduction but if the summary contains everything they need to know, why is that so many politicians act so surprised when someone actually digging through these bills finds things that the summary does not mention? Why is it that so many politicians have looked foolish saying things are not part of the bill only to find out, oops, guess what, it is part of the bill?

Your response contradicts itself... on one hand you say a bill is in the nitty gritty and on the other you say it is not necessary to understand it.

You are represented by Senators and Representatives. If you don't like a bill, call them and tell them why. They know what they are voting on. They've all read summaries of the bill. A huge percentage of any bill is the nitty gritty of making sure that every possibility is covered. It's necessary for implementation, but not for understanding what the bill does.

Here's an example: What you want to accomplish: Get off at Exit 4B. You don't need to say go past Exit 1A, stay in center lane, go past Exit 1B, go under bridge saying Center Street, move to left lane, go past Exit 2A... Any bill Congress considers is full of the excruciatingly detailed instructions so the implementers don't try to get off at 2B because they heard of a shortcut to a cool hot dog stand. They define bridge, pavement, car, Exit, other cars, trucks, horse buggies, every possible word.

Source(s): Read the final House bill and several versions of the Senate bill.
