How many people had a hard time driving in the snow today.?

I work as a waitress on weekends and had to make my way out into the snow. My mustang is awful in the snow. Since my mom had no where to go she let me use her windstar. Good thing. When leaving work I backed out of my spot just fine. But when I went to pull away my wheels just spun. I tried go both forward and backward for about ten minutes. All of a sudden I got the van to go forward so I gunned it and I spun my wheels all the way out of the lot. If I was driving my car I would probably still be stuck there.

I did nearly 4 hours of driving on the toll road and it wasn't horrible.

The combination of good tire tread (rubber digging into the snow) and weight over the tires ensure better traction than slicker tires and less weight. The reason front-wheel-drive vehicles, such as your mom's Windstar, is better in the snow is because the weight of the engine and transmission is directly over the driven wheels so that increases traction. That's why rear-wheel-drive cars usually have a harder time in slick conditions, but cars such as Porsches and VW Beetles that have the engines in the back of the car and are rear-wheel-drive have an inherent advantage considering that the weight of cars transfer to the rear as you accelerate.

Bottom line, get better tires on your winter vehicle, and try to make sure there is weight over the driven wheels. If you drive your Mustang in the winter get good snow tires and consider adding bags of sand in the trunk of the car to added traction.

fords... yuck. but i had a fun time driving during the 6 inches of snow we got this morning, also i dont think a mustang or any rear wheel drive car is very good at all for the snow

Snow tires on your car or the windstar? They actually do make a big difference.
