To find the Rth of an RLC circuit, do I open the capacitor and short the inductor or remove everything?

Update:

how about for an RC and RL?

    Rthevinin would just be R.

When using Rth you need to open all caps, and short all inductors so if this is an RLC SERIES circuit your Rth is just R.

If this is in parallel you will have Rth = 0 because the inductor will make a short around the resistor. You know that a short across a R is 0 in parallel with R which is 0 ohms.

Remember ALWAYS include a circuit diagram.

A capacitor will read open on an ohm meter after its charged, and an inductor will read as a short.
