has anyone heard of a site called freecycle and is it a safe legitimate site?

I have various friends who run different freecycle sites. If you are thinking of joining, I would suggest that you open a second email account to register with, as you can easily become over run with notifications. They are legitimate sites which help a lot of things avoid landfill sites, and many of the members are really nice people too.

"Give and Take", is another organization which works on similar principles.

I have free cycle I get emails when a person post to give things away and when they are taken and when wanted. So I have about 100 emails a day. But my family has received a fridge, dishwasher, and a bed. Its just as safe as classifieds. I have had no bad dealings.

Very legitimate. Safe depends on the person who is giving the stuff away, but I've always had good luck both giving and receiving.

A lot depends on the local citizenry and moderators.

We have a local branch, and it is very good.

Check it out locally, and ask the moderator to send you the rules.

ONE VIP RULE THEY HAVE:

You do not ID yourself directly, whenever possible. If you want to give something away, meet soemwhere, or do not be alone when they come to get it. If you want to go get something free, again, do not go alone, and make sure people know where you are going.

google it and see if there is one in your area. We've been members for a year, and it's not about swapping items, but you offer items you no longer want, and can get items from others, but it's not straight across swapping. It's interesting.

I have heard of it, but haven't used it or known anyone who has. I think it's a great concept if it's as good as it sounds! Good luck!

it's great but you still have to be careful about giving out your info.

the mods are good about keeping on top of things but you have to be careful these days.
