benefit agency checking savings?

Does and how do the benefit agency check what savings you have, when your applying for benefits??

    They ask you to provide all your bank account details, so they can check with a bank to see what funds you have.

    They will request bank statements from you and pay slips if you are working. I'm guessing you're applying for Housing Benefit as only they request such info. If you have capital over £16k then you wont be eligible for HB, but if you have less then they will award you but not full entitlement. The benefits agency does not contact your bank directly for this info, they request it from you.

    They will ask you to show the last two months bank statements.

    I think you can claim benefits with up to 16k savings, although the more savings you have, the less benefit you will get.

    You are asked what savings you have, and your allowances are adjusted accordingly, which, if you think about it, is the fair way of doing it! Benefits are for people who have nothing. I believe there is a check made on information given. Good luck.
