Did god kill John Lennon?

Before you jump up with a resounding 'no!!', please read the following, and then try and come up with a good counter argument. It should only take a few minutes of your time....:)

In the workout room this morning, I was pedaling and reading the closed-captioning on the History Channel while my husband listened to MTV and ran 12 mph on the treadmill. (He is a machine—on the treadmill at least)

The show was about John Lennon (the murdered member of the Beatles) and his killer. I won't name his killer, as he apparently killed John for the notoriety; so in this article, he will be known as "Z".

“Z” had longed for notoriety for most of his life; from his early school days, through to college, he longed to be recognized, but instead ended up broke in Hawaii on the verge of suicide. He was in a rental car with the exhaust pouring in, when a stranger 'saved' him from his fate. He viewed this as a message from god.

“Z” then started spending time in libraries, and he came across a book with the photo of John Lennon on the cover. He became obsessed with the rock legend, and began to blame John for his shortcomings. Inside of his head, his 'evil child' as he called it would tell him he needed to go to New York and kill John. Then he would have what he needed. He tried fighting off the 'devil' inside of him, but he was losing the battle.

While reading the TV (?) I couldn't help but wonder if Locke's theory of human beings being born as 'blank slates' is true. Basically, the theory states that when we are born, humans have no concept of good, evil, colors, or any other form or knowledge except for what our body needs to know to function and survive. In other words, the notion of good and evil are not something we are born with, it is something we are taught.

Although mentally ill, (Z spent some time in mental hospitals) his knowledge of the 'devil' came from other human beings. If he was born, and was never taught anything about the notion of 'god' (good) or the 'devil' (evil) would he have been as disturbed as he was?

We are taught that we are constantly fighting off the bad from the good; that we are 'born sinners', and the bad will overtake us if we are not constantly vigilant. But if we do succumb, we are merely being 'human' and can ask jesus for forgiveness. Christianity has brainwashed entire nations who now think this way, and the people of these nations then go to church on Sunday to ask forgiveness from the 'sins' that they can't help themselves from committing.

Does this sound as ludicrous to you as it does to me? It is because of this notion that we can't help ourselves from 'sinning', the world is full of violence towards women and children, and we have so much rape, murder, theft, and crime in general. And even if the perpetrators of these crimes are not christian, the philosophy is so entrenched in our culture, they too believe they can't help themselves anyway...because the christian philosophy of being a 'born sinner' has now been labeled 'human nature'

No, it's NOT human nature to lie, cheat, steal and commit adultery and murder, and I can prove it. (But I won't here) I find the notion that I can't help being 'bad' an insult to my intelligence. Christianity is entirely wrong by promoting this notion, and we as people of the world, need to put a stop to it.

Update:

It is very obvious to me that most people that post answers did not read the question and/or details properly.

The argument is that the man who killed John Lennon was so influenced by the teachings of christianity, that it provoked him to murder John Lennon

Update 2:

edit to apeman--I don't lie, cheat, steal or commit adultery...yet I am human.

The Christian missionaries that came to north america found tribes of indians in which they described as having 'no sin' as they did not know the christian concepts of 'good' and 'evil' and had no concept of humans as being born sinners or evil by nature.

Update 3:

Rod--you would be wise to read and understand the posts before answering, as I am an atheist, and this argument goes against christianity

Update 4:

marybuko--Satan was not a fallen angel, that story is completely made up by christians. In the Torah, Satan was one of the sons of gods (gen 6 and Job)who worked for Yahweh as a spy and adversary of man to test them for god. In Isaiah the 'morning star' passages refer to the King of Babylon, not Lucifer

    I agree.

Some of the worst, meanest, most hatefull people I've known have been some of the most religious.

They think it is ok for them to be that way because of their religion and the fact that all is forgiven once a week.

It is not human nature to lie, cheat and steal.

I think it is human nature to be good to one another.

This world is a beautiful place when there is harmony amongst its people.

I agree that any mono theistic based society has a warped sense of right and wrong...but, each individual does too. Example, in a psychology class, we read a situation where the spouse is dying, some researcher finds a cure and it costs him $500 but he charges $1,000. You can only raise $700 but the researcher won't let it go for less than $1,000. Do you steal it?

My answer was the researcher is a lucky SOB if I don't hang him up by his toenails after I take it, but I'm sure there are others who think differently, regardless if they're Christian or not.

As far as monogamy goes, it seems entrenched in every society that successful men have more than one wife (Egyptian, Hindu, Greek and of course there are plenty of examples from the OT to the present (Christian society). However, it's still a huge trust issue between those involved.

I read that Christianity was a good religion to give the basics but for really deep learning, a person has to go through other levels before attaining 'enlightenment'. But, somewhere along the way, the lower level was made dogma and the power hungry spiced it up with some OT phrases (despite teaching that JC's coming did away with all of that) so now the crazies have a truly fcked up myth to 'justify' their lunacy.

I would say Islam has it's fair share of warped individuals, too...I don't hear much about or from the Jewish section but they have more 'reason' to be violent than the Christians do.

The fourth, George, died but had an active career until then. Paul was married for years and was widowed when Linda died. His second marriage didn't work out but the same is true of a lot of people. Musically he's been the most successful of all of the Beatles since their break up. Ringo does music and acting and did a kids show (what's wrong with that?) on the side. All in all the thread is a crock.

God did not kill John Lennon. Satan or the Devil killed John. When "Z" killed John Lennon, he was overtaken by the demonic forces within him. I read recently that "Z" always felt like a Nobody and wanted to be a Somebody when he killed John. But today "Z" regrets killing John Lennon. Guess what "Z"...it's too late! Satan won the day that John was murdered.

    I would still say no.

Maybe the idea of sins, and a 'us' and 'them' society created by Christianity is partly to blame. I would however level more blame on 'Z' directly.

He was mentally ill, that is for sure... So should he be deionized? I don't think so... I just think he was sick, and a product of his environment + his own mental problems.

I think we're learning better methods to deal with these types of behavioral problems. Hopefully, as we progress as a society not only will our mental health practices, and clinical outcomes improve, but religion will also play less of an important role in society.

Our Father does not kill as He is infinite Good and Loves us all. We must first seek to understand what death Truly is, as In Truth (our Lord Jesus demonstrated this Truth) there is no death. Men kill without understanding of Truth and therefore are subject to the lies. Seek Truth and you will find, knock and the door will be opened. Hope this helps. Love - D

There is no evidence any supernatural deity exists. So no God did not kill, cause to be killed or order to be killed John Lennon or anyone else. There is no God.
