A body with mind can only have life or soul. What is your opinion ?

The evolution has two major division. The evolution till earth (from simplest gas to complex stars & planets) had ingredients like the Space, the Fire (stars), the Air, the Water and the Earth. These became the placeholder for the next evolution - living creatures from the simplest and with the combination the most complex (like humans). The difference is the life and a mind of its own.

So is mind the placeholder for soul ? i.e. without mind, body does not retain the soul ?

Update:

Science is an open subject and constantly evolving. Who knows, it might be possible (in future) to decipher an entity whom we call God today. Neither mind and consciousness (soul or I) has been identified as physical entity within our body. But these are there. Need an open mind with scientific out of the box thinking to what the science might be, some millions years from now. May be the spirituality of today will merge with the science of those days. Do not know but cannot say it will not happen.

I don't agree because that makes the soul too contingent on the mind, which leads to warped ideas like spirituality is just a form of psychology.

Mind and soul have some overlap in the closed system of an individual life, but to say that soul only exists as long as the mind is functional is wrong to me. It would imply that people in comas with no brain activity were soulless. I don't believe that.

To me, mind is about what makes me an individual and soul is the connection I have with God and all other human beings.

By "mind" do you mean "brain"? Because if you do, yes, the brain is the physical source of what people call the soul. When the brain dies, so too does the soul.

I think you are saying that cosmic evolution set the stage for biological evolution, and is it possible that biological evolution is setting the stage for the evolution of the soul? I think it is safe to say that the answer is no. Consciousness is an emergent property of the physical stuff of our brains, just as the internet is an emergent property of the wires, transistors, and other computing hardware.

In reality, we actually evolved from all the still matter in the universe. The driving force behind all evolution is the development of the Will to Receive. All of our intellectual achievements are rooted in our growing desire to enjoy ourselves, which demands a developed mind to serve itself.

So what is a soul? If our sense of identity is something limited to a physical body, which is transient, who are we? In truth, a Soul is something we develop internally, as a quality opposite to our current one (Egoism or Unconditional Love of the Self). When we evolve to our highest point, our will to receive becomes ready to attain this quality of Altruism, or a Soul. By attaining it, we attain a higher level of existence above time, space, pleasure, and pain. We also gain the capacity to experience unlimited pleasure for eternity. Check these links out:

    MERRY CHRISTMAS

My dear friend, soul is nothing but the presence which is there in everything around you.Whatever is present outside you is also in you we are no different from the outside world.

    The earth is our skin

    The water is our blood

The air is what we breath which is filled in our body

The fire which keeps our body temperature if not we would die in no time

The space is the super consciousness which is present in us,if you can observe your thoughts deeply you'll realise this space between two thoughts.

Coming to your question, our mind is not the place holder for soul one can feel the presence of soul only if he looses his mind.

Now we are here as humans but it doesnt mean we have always been humans. We have been evolved to where we are now

    hope this answers your question

    Good luck

  • Dear Friend,

Manas (mind) is defined as '' Sankalpa Vikalpa Sanghaatam.''That is it is the conglomeration of all types of Thoughts.

the mind is required to understand .It is required up to certain level or stage in Spiritual life.

As along as a person carries on in life, the mind goes on collecting and storing nall types of thoughts etc.

It is the seat of Desires, Hatred, love etc and as well as a desire to Progress Spiritually.

But to Reach the Peak of spirituality or self Realization, as per Scriptures one shall have absolute control over Mind and EMPTY THE MIND FROM ALL THE GARBAGE IT HAS ACCUMULATED.

The Sanatsujaateeyam and yoga vashistam VERY CLEARLY SAY THAT ONLY THE COMPLETE DEMOLITION OF MIND OR COMPLETE EMPTINESS

    Sanatsujaateeyam chapter 5 verse 19;

    '' Na karmanaa sukruteynaiva raajan

    Satyam jayey jjuhuyaadwaa yajeydwaa,

    Nai teyna baalo2mrutyu mabhyeyti raajan,

Ratim chaasow na labha tyanta kaaley.''

meaning; with however shraddhaa one does karmaas (deeds) one can never realize HIM..Homam and yagnams done by one without gnaam will not lead him to MOKSHAM.AFTER DEATH THAT PERSON WILL NOT REACH MOKSHAM.''

    VERSE 20'

'' Tuushnee meyka upaasita cheysteyta manasaa2pina

Tadhaa samstuti nindaabhyaam preeti roshou vivarjayeyth.''

meaning; One shall not do any deed (karma) with body and word. One should completely demolish the mind ,One shall be above praise or prejudice or anger etc.''

    THEN ONE REALIZES.

    THAT IS WHAT SCRIPTURES SAY.

    Hope it is helpful.

    Christians view things differently.

Before the Fall of mankind (Adam and Eve), we lived in a deathless state and were entirely immortal. Evolution requires death and natural selection (along with beneficial mutations which have yet to be demonstrated) to "progress".

I find it unlikely that evolution from simple to complex is possible; i.e. from non-living chemistry to biological entities. And for that progress to continue despite the billions of things that could go wrong? Pulling oneself up by ones bootstraps (no matter how hard you tug) won't get you off of the ground.

The mind is only part of the soul, which is made up of your mind, will, and emotions. Satan is after the souls of men, but God wants to transform them bu a born again spirit. The spirit and soul of man are different, but connected to each other, and can only be divided by the word of God ( Hebrews 4:12). We are a spirit ( either we have the dead spirit ( which simply means without God ) we are born with, or a recreated spirit from God through Jesus ), we possess a soul, and live in a body. The body without the spirit and soul is dead.

I think that it is a very bad idea to create any sort of myth around evolution.

And the word "soul" is really too much overloaded with religion to use it in connection with evolution. Better call it just a "conscious mind". The conscious mind of humans is a result of evolution, so much is true. But of course it dies with the body.

at the time 3rdmonth in mothers womb,,,both soul, mind enters the body,,,,,,soul/mind will be in tact with body because of life presents---life will be provided by the god.

if death happens--both soul/mind leaves the body---coz no life.
