Christmas Shopping Dilemma - What's Right?

Lets say I have someone who I'm shopping for and I plan to spend $40. I find the perfect $40 sweater and then with store discounts and a coupon I end up paying $25. Do I need to shop for an additional $15 gift? Or am I done? After all, I've purchased a gift worth $40. Do I get penalized for being a smart shopper, or should I just shop for a $60 sweater in hopes of getting it for around $40? How do you handle this?

i think you should save the extra money. you bought the $40 sweater, who cares how much you actually spent? it's the thought that counts.

Go with just the sweater. It doesn't matter how much you put into the gift. The discounts and coupon are just an added bonus. More money in your pocket! Besides who is going to know?
