  • Why am I not receiving notifications for my Yahoo Calendar events?

For the past 2 weeks or so I have not received notifications for any of the events I have set in Yahoo Calendar. I have relied on this for the past couple of years, and all of a sudden I'm not receiving anything. Is there some kind of system problem, or am I the only one with this issues?

  • Question on Virus Scanning Programs?

A couple of weeks ago our computer got a virus. I had been running several programs for virus, malware, adware etc. I kept the definitions up-to-date and ran them all on a regular basis. But because the virus symptoms continued I decided to take it to a computer store to get fully checked out and cleaned.

They removed all the programs that I was using and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. They told me that this is all that I need. They also gave me a 2 month guarantee on the work.

But I guess I have a couple of questions:

    1. Does this one program really do everything and I don't need any other protection installed for my computer?

    2. Since it is a Microsoft program (and MS is targeted more often) is this really a good safe program, or are there viruses that can target and shut down MS's virus program as well?

Thanks for whatever insight you can give me.

  • Roth IRA and Income Tax?

I'm getting my tax stuff together and I don't have any 1099 statements for my Roth IRA accounts. I'm thinking that because the money goes in after taxes and earns money tax-free I won't have anything to report on the return. Is this correct?

  • Is there a way to repaint bathroom fixtures?

When we moved into our house, the main bathroom had all harvest gold fixtures. Over the years, we've replaced the tub and sink. I don't really want to replace the toilet, but it looks a bit out of place. So, is there an easy way to repaint without replacing?

  • Christmas Shopping Dilemma - What's Right?

Lets say I have someone who I'm shopping for and I plan to spend $40. I find the perfect $40 sweater and then with store discounts and a coupon I end up paying $25. Do I need to shop for an additional $15 gift? Or am I done? After all, I've purchased a gift worth $40. Do I get penalized for being a smart shopper, or should I just shop for a $60 sweater in hopes of getting it for around $40? How do you handle this?

  • I have a question on the King.com website?

From what I can see, you can play for free, or you can spend a few dollars and get a membership. You can also play tournaments for money. However, the website information is rather vague as to whether this is legal or not. Basically "some countries can, some countries can't". You're expected to know the laws of your country. So -- can people in the US play for money? Also, has anyone done so and are there any pros and cons to doing so? Thanks for your help.

  • Disney's 100 Years of Magic Celebration. What does that mean?

If you're having a 100 year celebration then that means that something significant happened in 1909 that is worth celebrating. But what is that? Walt Disney was born in 1901. The company was formed in 1923. So what exactly did Walt do at the age of 8 that is worth this big extravaganza?

I think they are just trying to make up something that sounds good to woo people back into their parks.

    Any other thoughts?

  • Digital converter box - I'm confused.?

We currently have a TV that is not hooked up to cable. It is a fairly new set (maybe 2 years old). Some things I read say ALL TV's not hooked to cable will need a converter. Other articles say that only OLD sets not hooked to cable. How do I know if my set will need a converter box or not?

  • Recipe for Lemon Breaded Chicken?

Does anyone have a recipe for a Lemon Breaded Chicken? This would be boneless chicken breasts, breaded and baked but with a fairly strong lemon flavoring. I have had this at restaurants before, but can’t seem to find a recipe. Thanks much.

  • Does Alka-Seltzer really cure urinary tract infections?

I just heard this and it sound too good to be true. But I was told that if you start taking Alka-Seltzer as soon as symptoms begin it clears it up quickly. Does anyone have any experience with this?

  • Why are charitable organizations asking for your credit card information when they call for donations?

I don't give to a lot of organizations. But lately when they call and you pledge money, they want you to give them your credit card number so they can "get the money to work faster". Isn't that the first rule of thumb: Never give your credit card number (or bank numbers or SSN) to anyone that calls you. They act disappointed and SHOCKED that you do feel comfortable doing that. Are they nuts or am I?

  • How much space do I have on my Yahoo e-mail?

I recall it used to show on your e-mail screen the percent of space your account is taking up. I don't see that any more. I'm going to be away from my computer for awhile and unable to access my account. I don't want to miss any messages.

  • Why are VISA debit cards so hard to use?

I've tried using them at stores at the mall, i.e. Sears, Kohls, and they have to change them over to their store's gift card and then use the gift card for the purchase. Why is this? The cards are more trouble to use then they're worth!

  • Why am I getting multiple e-mails from Yahoo Answers?

The last couple of weeks, every time I get a "Best Answer" e-mail for a question I answered, I get it multiple times. Three or four times at least and usually spread out over several days. I wouldn't mind if I was getting all the extra points to go with them. But I only get points the first time it shows up.

  • Do you know of another company that deducts income taxes like this?

My company (located in NY) is now making us keep track of any days that we work outside of New York State. If, for example, I go to a 1 day business meeting in Massachusetts they deduction Massachusetts income tax from my wages for one day. If I want to get that money back at the end of the year, I have to file a tax return with Massachusetts. They are doing this for all business travel to all states.
