How will a different type of oil affect the performance of my car?

I have a '97 Dodge Stratus ES, and usually put 5W30 (the recommended) oil in my car; my boyfriend placed 10W when refilling. Will this significantly impact the performance of my car...?

If you live in a colder climate go back to the 5W. If you live more in the souther half of the country then you probably have nothing to worry about. I know some folks that run 10w30 in summer and 5w30 in winter. Most cars really won't care, but the 10w is thicker so in really cold (below freezing) weather it might make the oil pump work harder.

not enough difference in the two to cause any problems.
