Ariat Heritage ll Tall Boots?

So, I've decided to get a nice pair of Ariat Heritage 2 tall boots with my christmas money this year. I have been asking around, and went to Horse Tack Review, and it seems that some people hate them, and others can't say enough about them. My friend told me (she has ariat heritage 2 tall zip) that hers are perfect. Other people said their zipper broke before they even got on their horse (i've heard many people say that). Is it true? I don't want them to break in the middle of a show day! I want something that will be comfertable to wear at a show while I am walking and running around for 8 hours daily. One girl told me to order your boots a 1/4 inch larger in the calf measurement and they will fit perfectly. Maybe all the other people who's zippers broke ordered them exactly the measurement of their calf so it was too tight? Should I just order what my measurement says (14.5in-calf)? Also...about the height- when I measure my leg height, how many inches do I need to add to allow them to drop down? Thank you!!

Here is the boot I am talking about:

Update:

would you guys pay a bit more money to buy the Ariat Challenge boots? (without zippers). I'm starting to think after looking at more reviews that a boot with a zipper has got more bulk in the ankle area? I don't think the heritage comes without a zipper...does it? I would order it on dover saddlery, but last time I delt with them, my shipping for 5 pairs of jump cups was over $100! They called me and told me that it would be better if I ordered from somewhere closer. Well, my tack shops around here sell the challenge boot for over $400. Can someone please find me a canadian tack shop that offers the challenge without zipper for a much cheaper price? thanks. (I live in BC, canada). I am not allowed to go onto Ebay by the way, haha.

Yep, I used to have those.

They were nice and super comfortable. I could walk around all day at shows and my feet wouldn't be killing me thaaat much. Obviously, they're not as comfortable as tennis shoes but they come in a close second. I never had problems with the zipper. You just have to be gentle with the zipper and not rip it around and stuff and it won't come off. If it does come off or anything happens to your Ariat boots (no matter what style) you can send it in and they'll fix it for you without any charge. The only complaint I have about this boot is that the fit is off. It doesn't mold to your calf like a non-zip boot would. Where the zipper part is it kind of sticks out and I find that to be unattractive. But as far as the over-all quality for the price of the boot you can't go wrong. They were my second pair of tall boots after I grew out of my mom's. When I finally started making my own money I splurged and got myself the Ariat Monaco (sp?) boot and it has been a great investment. Arait is such a nice brand anything you get from them you really can't be disappointed.

I'm actually not an expert on boot-fitting. Call Dover!! They are sooo helpful with any questions for fitting. I call them frequently. Last time I called was when I was having trouble ordering my new helmet and I didn't know what size to get. Awesome customer service!!

Ariat tall boots tend to have very narrow shafts; their wide calf is about the same as most boot brand's regular. If you are lucky enough to have tiny calves, they work great, but they are designed to fit relatively loosely, so you do want to both try before you buy (with your thickest breeches) and buy them a quarter inch wider. The biggest difference between the heritage and the challenger is the sturdiness of the zipper. Your local shoe shop should be able to replace them when they break (every zipper does if you wear the boots regularly) for about $75; that will go better if there is a little slop in the shaft as well.

Dressage Extensions has a product that helps the zippers slide better and thus last longer; it really does help! The best $5.95 plus shipping you will ever spend! http://www.dressageextensions.com/ProductDetail.as...

I've had people say about every boot that the zipper breaks. Even with $500 boots or $100 boots. I guess they just have bad luck. I have Ariat Challenge field boots and they are amazing. The are so comfortable, they broke in good, and i've never had any problems with the zipper. I have these boots:

So i've never tried the Heritage, but Ariat is always the best way to go. Almost all the reviews on Dover says those the zipper breaks, so maybe I would find another boot with better reviews. The Challenge II is a bit more expensive, but it would be worth it if it doesn't break.

Here it is much cheaper in case you change your mind =]

i had ariat boots. i'm not sure if it was that exact pair i had, but it looks just like them. they're really good after you break them in (they're obnoxiously squeaky at first) but unfortunatelyyy my zipper just broke on my left boot so i need to get a new pair soon! /: i've had them for like two year-ish, but the thing that little part that you hold onto when you pull the zipper up broke off one boot like a year ago and then two weeks ago the zipper just completely came undone. sucks! ):
