What is the advantage to AT&T including free wi fi hot spot service with their Iphone plan?

AT&T has started offering free wifi at any participating AT&T wifi location for iPhone customers, AT&T DSL customers, or AT&T smart phone users or laptop connect users. The purpose is to allow their customers to use a faster internet connection if its available. Some say that using wifi instead of 3G internet access will actually save battery power, so if WIFI is available to you as an option, it can be better to use.

If your iPhone doesn't say 3G, you still have internet access. Actually, its called EDGE web data and its a lot faster than dial up. EDGE covers all of the at&t wireless network but 3G is available in most places too. They are always adding new 3G cell sites.

So, some people may be thinking that Verizon has much bettter coverage when it comes to 3G but the truth is that the 3G network is in reach to the majority of its customers. So just because the map looks small doesn't mean you should have a hard time getting 3G coverage. To be turhfull, Verizon wireless has more 3G because its easier to upgrade a CDMA network. All they did was do a basic software update of their towers so really they didn't have to do much. But taking the easy way out paid the price when it comes to speed. Verizon has a much slower 3G network compared to at&t based on their website's information. AT&T has to make antenna changes to the towers for the 3G to function and if the tower is really old, they have to put in a new back hall line to the wire line network for the tower to connect to the network.
