Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Anyone of faith?

Do you believe you were born with your religion? As if it was innate in you? Or do you accept that you were taught your religion by people, usually parents, and that people are fallible?

Update:

Obviously this is directed to those who have their original religion from childhood.

I was taught religion (Christianity) by my parents when I was young. When I got older I did what most adults do and made up my own mind about things (I am now an atheist).

Source(s): Your questions seem to be unrelated. What does me knowing who taught me my religion, and that these people are fallible have to do with each other. The truth is not dependant on those who teach.

Just because I do not agree with an atheist does not mean they don't have a right to be here. In their eyes, they are right. In my eyes, I am right. There is no difference. I am a Christian, and I believe strongly in my faith. I'm quite sure an atheist is just as strong in their disbelief. I read their questions, and if it is a legitimate question, then I may attempt to answer it. If it is an obvious bash at Christianity, I do have the option of not answering it. There are some questions posed that are really ignorant, and any person with reasonable intelligence is going to see that. So if they want to look like fools, I will certainly let them! Jesus stated for us to share our faith with those who will listen. I believe He said to many, "If they have ears, let them hear........" Perhaps some on here have ears, and then there will be those who don't. My prayer is that something I will say will get them to think differently.

For me it was neither. I was not born with my religion, nor do I believe anyone can be born into a certain religion (even if your parents baptize you or whatnot). And I was not taught my current faith by anyone but myself. I believe finding your true religion is something you do on your spiritual journey, a trip that one can only take alone. In other words, if you were "born" into a certain religion, you are going by blind faith and that is not necessarily where you belong.

I believe that in one of my past lives, I was studying Buddhism and I simply found that path again when I was researching different religions in this life. The reason why I believe this is simply from a very young age I believed in reincarnation even though I grew up with a Catholic mother and a Lutheran father and learned about heaven and hell. I believe in the concept before I even knew what the word for it.

When I began studying Buddhism in high-school ( for a project ), it felt so right. Many of the things it expressed I felt I already knew.

I think that you're usually born of a faith, but don't nessicarily follow it in your heart. It may not feel like the RIGHT religion for you so you change faiths. Not me, though. I was born and raised a Jew, and lately I've realized that nothing has felt more certain to me than Judaism.

1 - Your avatar looks very much like the Chicago Wolves hockey team logo.

2 - No chance without jesus made me laugh. Thank you. :-D

3 - This is my PERSONAL opinion, and in no way reflects the general Jewish one. I think that we are born with the choice to choose religion or not. Our parents encourage us to follow religion, and do their best to teach it to us. But innately, a baby is agnostic - s/he doesn't care about religion, which comes about through thinking about why we exist etc.

So a baby cannot be born religious or even an athiest (since that in itself is believing in something). A baby just wants food and sleep (and changing of its poop). Trust me. I have two of them (and a third on the way).

I wasn't born to Buddhism. I've always had a personality that is sort of aloof, really cerebral, and really aversive to having a lot on my plate. I have always been drawn to withdrawal and silence and introspection. I have always objected to violence on a visceral level that defies anything I was raised with or taught. So Buddhism it is, but only after spending a long time searching for where I fit in.

EDIT--@ No Chance: LMAO! You're one of the funniest clones I've seen yet.

I was born with the innate human nature and predispositions which all newborns have. In Islam this is called the Fitrah and it has certain implications.

I was then taught and brought up as a Catholic by my family and society.

    People are fallible of course.

I came to Islam as an adult.

  • I am not sure what you presently call innate above. After doing my own studying as an adult, and changing (and more changes to come) a lot of people are having 'trouble' understanding my Christianity apparently.

I was born into this Religion but years ago I fell a way and become Agnostic. I was forced to my knees and saw how stupid it was, now I am back to my first love and I am happy.
