The Shadows......from the 1950's to the 2000's. here are few lines from Wikipedia:

The Shadows are Britain's most successful instrumental and vocal group with a total of 69 UK hit charted singles: 35 as 'The Shadows' plus 34 as 'Cliff Richard and The Shadows', from the 1950s to the 2000s.

The Shadows are the 3rd most successful UK charted hit-singles act, behind Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard.

The Shadows were the original pioneers of the four-member rock-group format (consisting of 2 guitars, bass and drums) in the UK. 

With their lead singer, Cliff Richard, The Shadows totally dominated the British popular music scene in the late 1950s and early 1960s (ie the 5 year "Before-Beatles" period: 1958-1962), before The Beatles' first year in the charts in 1963.

John Lennon once claimed that "before Cliff and the Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music." As the first backing band to emerge as stars in their own right, they were early trailblazers for the beat-group boom that eclipsed them.

the band had hits worldwide and had a significant impact on many British guitarists before the Beatles (inspiring the likes of: Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Mark Knopfler, Mike Oldfield, Peter Green, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, Tony Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Andy Summers, Brian May, Peter Frampton, Lemmy Kilmister and other notable British rock/pop musicians such as: Roger Taylor, Phil Collins, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Elton John).

so why do they not get mentioned here that often . Or never I should say..

Yeah I've heard of the Shadows before.

Although the only songs I've heard out of that list are Apache (great song) and Bachelor Boy.

they were a great English group from the '50's that I do remember
why they aren'y recognized more for their contribution to early Rock, I don't know

I used to hear about them all the time, years ago
and as you mentioned, a LOT of rockers cite him/them as an influence
