Cloudy fish tank water due to aquatic plants?

I have a 125 gallon turtle tank. Recently I put in a large assortment of aquatic plans and since then have not been able to keep the water clean. The tank has also becoming smellier since then. I've just about had it with the plants except for the fact that my turtles LOVE them. I tested the ammonia levels and they are fine and have been doing regular tank cleanings. Is there anything that could possibly be fogging the water other then the aquatic plants? And how do I get the water to clear up?

Update:

I do have a filter. I have a Marine Land canister filter.

Update 2:

I also have several plecos, snails, and algae eating shrimp.. which may have turned into a snack as I have not seen them recently : /

it sounds like u got a bacterial bloom goin on in your tank. that can be caused by the plants. if there are any dead leaves that would be one way.... or dead roots. also you need a filter if you have plants... since you didnt mention if you had one or not... it is important. if you do have a filter and still have cloudy water, get a water clairifier from the petstore and keep doing water changes. the water clairifier will kill that bad bacteria the is building up. that should clear it up. just go to your local petstore and they will show you which products they have and which is the one they would reccomend

sometimes, if you have too many plants it can be an overload on the filter because if just every one of the plants has just one root or one dead leaf that is decaying, it puts that much more strain on the filter and it wont be able to keep up... another way to get it to go away is just to get another filter... double the filtering power.

If the water is high enough try getting a plecostomus fish aka a pleco to eat algae off the sides of the tank and cut down on pollution.

You might want to take some of them out, so less algee forms. Just don't make it so dense. You can still have some nice plants in there for them to enjoy.

Well, depending on the turtles, it should be fine. In nature, they live in very dirty and mucky and i doubt your aquarium is THAT dirty.

if you have something that feeds them nutrients then if you disturb it then thats why
