Is it possible to change the desktop in a HP Mini laptop computer?

I recently got one, and can't seem to make it work. Does any know how to do this appropriately?

    Did you try to right click, select properties and select desktop?

    There should be an update to win7 starter that would allow you to change it, but I am not sure, I only have home premium in the house..
