Shouldn't a belief not require education?

What I mean by that is this; shouldn't something such as a belief in a God be something that you would feel even if you were brought up alone on a desert island for example. It seems that with all religions that you base this belief on what you are taught by your parents or at church.

For something as important as belief in something greater, wouldn't you be aware of it even without the outside influences as mentioned above.

This isn't to bash people with religion, more a case of understanding your thoughts on this. As with the example above

Update:

Deep Thought - You've missed the point. I'm saying that wouldn't you know about God without the need to be told about it

Some people are saved to a belief in God borne from utter despair and hopelessness without being taught previously. This can occur with Christian radio, a Gideon's Bible in a hotel room or just a random stranger.

But there is nothing wrong with being taught by one's parents or one's pastor. It is how God wants us to parent. The Bible calls children a "heritage of the Lord." We believe God gives us a child and we give our child back to God.

Source(s): Feelings don't save us. Think about it--feelings can sometimes be our worse enemy we need saving from. Are you happier without God than your parents or grandparents are (or were) with God?

Gut instincts and emotional beliefs are what animals live on. We have brains and the ability to reason, which is much much better.

So no, beliefs DO require education, at least if you give a damn about the truth of what you believe.

Yeah for real. That's one of the reasons religion is doubtful.

Well if that was the case, then we'd all be wandering around half naked, chucking spears, and believing that we need to sacrifice a virgin to appease the forrest spirits in order to have a successful hunt before the dry season hits.

Well the only way religion can exist, since it is man-made, is for it to be taught.

not if there were no evidence for it

creation reveals the power of god.

from that people ask does god exist?

you can not know god with out information about him.

so no you need education on what god wants and desires of those who choose to follow him

Also, shouldn't the 'true' religions not need so much propaganda?
