I am backing Mexico to at least reach the Quarter-Finals in the 2010 World Cup, what do you say?

I think they will top group A (finishing just ahead of France), defeat either Nigeria or Greece in the second round, and then play England in the quarter-finals. You never know with England, I can imagine Mexico punishing the English if they underestimate them in the slightest. I think it will be just reward for Mexico to even reach the last 8, after narrowly going out in the last 16 for 4 tournaments running.

The high altitude of S Africa will also favour the Mexicans.

Despite all the merit Mexico has gained in the recent World Cups ( even winning the U-17 championship 2005), they are now in the Group of Death having to play their first game against the locals and knowing that FIFA tries to favor local teams so they can at least make it through the group stage, it will add extra difficulty for Mexico's interest.

My guess is that South Africa has a 50% chance of reaching the second spot (with all the help they can get) and the first seat will depend on the match Mexico-France, but Uruguay is also a country that always fights for qualifying and narrowly misses advancing when not.

This group reminds me of 2002 Group A: Denmark - Senegal - Uruguay - France

Uruguay barely missed qualifying in the last game against Senegal after being down by 3 goals in the first half, they scored the equalizer in the 88th minute and almost scored the winning goal that would have meant their pass to the next stage. France being the world champion ended last with only one point (tied against Uruguay) due to Zinedine Zidane's injury on a friendly match against South Korea he only made it to the final game (loss to Denmark 0-2).

I have made various options on a FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 SIMULATOR and most of the groups are obvious except Group A, and maybe Group G (Brasil, Ivory Coast & Portugal). Try it for yourself:

    Daguz80 manipulates all the information to convince everyone that Mexico is . . . . . . . . . . . just about the same as anyone else!

They beat Uruguay 3-1 in the game for 3rd place, well big deal because Peru beat Uruguay 3-0 in that same tournament and they are dead last in the continent!

Start being more HUMBLE and wait for results (don't try to act like an Argentinian for Christ sake! everyone hates them!).

Remember Colombia's national team in WC 1994? They were the "Dream Team" who defeated Argentina 5-0 in Buenos Aires! A feat that not even Brazil has done. And what happened to them in the WC? . . . . . . DISAPPOINTMENT!

What has France done in the past 3 years? Well, ask yourself that same question for Mexico.

I really hope Mexico makes it to the quarter finals and they sure deserve it. But don't underestimate the other 3 contenders, it's impolite and foolish.

    1. Mexico

    2. South Africa

    3. France

    4. Uruguay

Mexico beat Uruguay in South America 3-1.

Uruguay bearly Beat Costa Rica 2-1 aggragate in the playoff for the last qualifying spot Mexico beat Costa Rica 5-0 aggragate in World Cup Qualifying.

How exactly is Uruguay stronger than Mexico?

France has done what in the past 3 years????? They proved their worth in the 08 euro's and look how they qualified to South Africa? France is overrated.

For Mexico, the toughest game will be against South Africa. Why? FIFA will favor South Africa and you better bet your @ss that the refs will favor South Africa as well.

Mexico has the Altitude and the fact that Aztec stadium has over 100,000 vuvuzuelas at every home game makes that so called home field advantage for South Africa obsolete.

Mexico also has something that they have never experienced in their history...a counter attack. Look back at Mexico's World Cup history....many times they take the lead but just cant hold it. There is no pressure to leave men back for opponents. That has changed. 3 recent games show the deadly new counter that Mexico has.

    1. Mexico beats USA 5-0 in the USA. USA had a better 1st half but once Mexico scored early in the 2nd half...the floodgates opened. USA moved forward looking for the equalizer and right away Gio (Tottenham) and Vela (Arsenal) scored 2 goals.

    2. Mexico beats Costa Rica in Costa Rica 3-0. Mexico is in a Must Win while Costa Rica Needs a point to stay in the top 3 for the qualifying group. 0-0 in the first half until Gio scores a 25 yarder right before halftime. 2nd half starts and Gio leads 2 fast breaks and ends up with 1 goal and 2 assist.

    3. Mexico beats El Salvador 4-1 at home. El Salvador HAD TO WIN....not a tie...but a win, in order to stay in the hunt for a qualifying spot. That means they could not play a 10 man defense that USA and Honduras played in Aztec stadium. Mexico dominates and slaughters the compitition.

You will get the clueless followers that only know one thing....France is in Europe...Uruguay is in South America. These folks know nothing on this sport and have not followed the 32 squads in this tournament.

Mexico, Chile and Ivory Coast are teams that will make a difference in this World Cup.

Anything can happen my friend. Mexico can reach all the way to the finals if they can believe themselves. Shoot, going back to the confederations cup, U.S.A. beat Spain 2-0. They almost beat Brazil, but with poor defense the Brazilians managed to beat them 3-2. Like I said before, anything could happen. Goo luck to the Mexicans at the World Cup.

You know it Mexico is doing good to bad the USA wont make it that far

Look, Mexico can't even finish first in this terrible CONCACAF group and has a record of 10 losses, 4 wins, and 2 ties against their biggest opponents, the US. You really think a team like that will make it far?

True, your group is weak. I also expect Mexico to reach the second round, but I don't expect them to get any further than that. I remember how Mexico blew games in the second round before against relatively weak opponents in 1994 and 2002. In 2006 they played one good game in the 2nd round - yet lost - and their fans get all hung up on it.

    Source(s): England will win

Mexico blows! Uruguay & France will advance & even if Mexico got through Greece's defense will frustrate their undisciplined high strung gals & they will lose 1-0.

As for England they will choke, even Capello can't stop the Brits from self destructing.

Besides, they are starting to believe thier own press & that leads to disaster.

i say - good luck with your lucid fantasy dreams my boy.

what is the name of the medicine you have been administered ?

does it taste like simple linctus or banana cough syrup ?

look, mexico lack a world class striker.

Ok. maybe QF's but its not going to be easy.

although I wonder if the heat and humidity will aid them on their ques to reach the knock out stages ?
