R&P: We shouldn't totally dismiss rap music, it appears.?
I can solemnly say that this is a very moving song:

Well, maybe it's just this one guy. His lyrics aren't all about pimps 'n' hoes, which is what turned me off to the stuff in the first place. But I don't know much about rap music...not my place to judge. I just know I like the song.

As many have said already, Eminem is the only hip hop artist I will voluntarily listen to. I actually find much of his material quite engrossing and powerful. Mainstream rap is rubbish, no, it's worse than rubbish, its rubbish that not even the rats will touch. I hate it with a passion, yet I find ol' Marshall Mathers a very very talented individual and his music is artful and straight from the heart. His lyrics are often exceptionally poetic, and he rages with passion on every song. I much prefer his harder edged stuff like White America and Stan over the lighter sort of comedy songs he does like My Name Is (although that's still an awesome song on it's own terms). I've listened to him for half my life and I still have no idea how he manages to rhyme some of the words he rhymes with. That's what sets him apart from the rest in my opinion. He is a brilliant musician and I am never ashamed to admit the respect and admiration I have for him.
I almost projectile vomited when I heard he was collaborating with Li'l Payne though. Ugh. Mistake.

RAP WILL perpetually BE around because is a sort of music and a good number of human beings like it as much as U LIKE UR form of music SO I LUV IT AND IDC WHAT every physique ELSE SAYS SO THERE and plus there are rap songs with messages not many yet there are some accessible it in simple terms relies upon on the rap artist that's singing it. despite if or not they care correct to the beat or the message they are sending.Rap music is approximately "ghetto existence" yet a number of those rap songs are correct to the hardships and the memorys that they had living in that form of existence-form so which you will particularly attempt to take heed to many of the lyrics yet a good number of rap artist communicate approximately crap and nonsense too.

I agree. Rappers like 50 cent and all the uncreative dolts that just repeat the same lines over and over give hip hop a bad name. Even the people that love hip hop don't listen to the truly great stuff.
I'll put these rappers/hip-hop groups against almost any band:
Outkast (Stankonia is arguably the best album of the 2000's)
Fugees
Lauryn Hill (Miseducation of Luaryn Hill is a classic album, top 5 of the 1990's)
Wu Tang Clan
(Old) Common
The Roots (who are stellar musicians but all the rockers refuse to acknowledge that)
(Old) Nas (I dare you to find lyrics better than Illmatic)
K-Os

Rap music is solid. I like Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, Living Legends and The Roots. All great stuff.

Yes. "Stan" is a great song and so is "When I'm Gone" also by Eminem.

Rap is great when you understand the skill that lies in writing the lyrics.
2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Common, Mos Def, Cypress Hill, Wu-Tang Clan, Eazy-E, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, AZ, Canibus, Jedi Mind Tricks among others also have that in there songs.

I really like a lot of rap. I love Wu Tang and it's various members like RZA, GZA, Ghostface etc. Also Nas is pretty awesome. It's just the popular MTV stuff that sucks, as with rock music too.

I don't hate rap. I hate the white kids that think there ghetto because they like crappy mainstream hip-hop like Lil Wayne, and T-Pain. I kinda like 70s and 80s rap, because it's more innocent, but today it's all about sex and women and drugs. Older rap actually had meaning.

The part about his mother always brings chills down my back...
Other good groups are Public Enemy, Cannibal Ox and the Roots.

im also from RHH.
i enjoy seeing people who, although reluctantly, can see some wiggle room in regards to rap music.
even so, many artists in hip hop, besides Eminem, are known for moving lyrics and their poetry (however you want to define poetry). furthermore, some artists go beyond lyricism and use wordplay, rhyme schemes, and diverse diction to broaden the concept of "lyrics"
here are a few of my favotie poetic songs:
Pigeon - Cannibal Ox

Escape Artist - Sage Francis

Rap is great, Its one of my favorite kinds of genres. The problem is auto tunes came in and then it got so much commeralization and people just listen to the mainstream stuff. People never really take the time to look under mtv's crap.
Source(s): oh btw, stan is a great song.
