Is it possible to overchill cookie dough?
I am working on a cookie recipe for a cookie exchange tomorrow (curse my SIL!.. haha) and it says to chill the dough for an 1 1/2, and chill the filling for 2 hours. If I chill them over night, will it mess up the recipe, or is it more like 'chill at least..'
Novice baker needs a little help!
Here's the recipe if that helps: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Polis...

Over night will be just fine. That is a minimum time to get the correct stiffness of the dough.
****why do people keeo saying you need to Thaw the dough. It is going to the fridge not freezer. And you don't need a full hour to let it get workable. At least 10 min to about 30.

Chilling the dough over night won't harm it, but it might make the dough a little too firm to roll out the next day. To solve this problem, just let the dough rest on the counter (still wrapped) for up to a half an hour before continuing with the recipe. Check it periodically, because dough that is too soft is very difficult to work with.
*make sure you wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap, or in a plastic zipper bag to prevent it from picking up other flavors from the rest of the food in the fridge.

It's certainly POSSIBLE...I think the question would be whether or not it would actually taste good enough to be worth the effort of extracting the cookie dough from the ice cream. I would think it probably wouldn't be.

Your refrigerator is going to suck the moisture out of the mix so make sure you cover the bowl with plastic wrap and give it a good hour to thaw before you bake it.

If you put them in the frig, they'll get to a safe temperature.
You don't them so cold that it fractures when cut or rolled.
