How do they make brake rotors?

I was wondering how they make vented brake rotors? Are they cast that way or are they cast solid and a machine cuts into the side to put vent holes in. Or are they made out of a few different pieces and welded at some point in the process?

If someone can explain how they make them that would be great!

Thanks,

Jim
