That was really good! (and dont take this the wrong way or anything, but you really need to get yourself a new girlfriend, you have been gasming all over rock and pop lately, and as great as rushgasms and eargasms are there is something much better out there than that in case you forgot...)

Can You think of any other genre-mixes that turned into sheer epic win? I really like this one bluesy metal song by Saxon, Slow Lane Blues; some of Cheap Trick's songs do that for sure too, "Combining a love for British guitar pop songcraft with crunching power chords and a flair for the absurd, Cheap Trick provided the necessary links between '60s pop, heavy metal, and punk. " umm, maybe O Claire from the Rockford album?

Bonus Question: What did You think of the Therion mini-opera? I enjoyed it a great deal, that was very very cool!!!

Maybe not the ULTIMATE win but yes, with bands like Therion, and Nightwish... there is a high level of win! haha

BQ: Love it, I've always loved Therion since I first heard them. They're an amazing band.

Can't say that I dig this sound but I do like the approach of Nightwish. The folk-metal genre-mix is sheer epic win in my mind. Bands like Eluveite, Equilibrium, Korpiklaani, Finntroll etc are awesome.

It does equal win, but the metal band needs to understand opera for it to work. Unlike most forms of rock, metal is based more on classical roots than blues. Because so many metal bands have ripped off Wagner's compositions, it only makes sense that metal and opera gel together.

    YES.

I bought most of Epica's stuff this week. I admit, I'm not quite digging their lyrics but symphonic metal is my favorite genre. I love Therion, Nightwish's instrumental Dark Passion Play, etc.

    The mini-opera is cool.

Symphony X, Ayreon and the Trans-Syberian Orchestra also have good opera lines in their music as did Focus and Queen in the past.

For me, only in small doses. I guess I prefer a slightly more subtle approach

    Sludge + Post-rock = Epic win
