type 1 diabetes and weight loss?

I have decided that I need to loose weight as I feel I have become insulin insensitive.I have also decided I will be doing this slowly and healthily.I understand there is a relationship between large amounts of insulin and weight gain.So if I reduce my carbs and therfore my insulin and do exercise to furher reduce my insulin needs will I loose weight? Also if I was having a snack what is better an apple or lean protien as the apple would require more insulin....will I have to reduce my fruit intake to loose weight?Im sorry about all the questions I am just so confused.Perhaps everything I am saying is wrong!xxx

From what I've read on http://www.diabetesforums.com/ (I'm not a T1, but there are a bunch there), then your thoughts are absolutely correct -- reducing carb intake and insulin intake, and increasing exercise seems to work wonderfully.

Good luck to you. I won't offer snack ideas, as I don't know what works for you -- I like my proteins (nuts, a lot) for snacks.

  • First off, congrats on trying to loose weight. ;)

next, on diets(especially for diabetics) increase protein intake. Th cool thing about protein is that it keeps you fuller longer so your not hungry, it doesn't spike your sugar and it has no carve so no extra insulin.

Next things is now if you do loose weight, you body is gonna process insulin better so your blood sugars are probably gonna drop cuz your body is using lots of energy and it's geeting th energy from th carbs you eat and your body fat so keep juice around. And you might need to reduce your insulin intake.

I hope I answered you questions and I hope I helped. If you have any other questions, please contact me. I would love to help
