Marlin firearms "Bullseye"?

I have been doing some research on this. My Question is was there any certain reason they started putting the white circle with the black dot (bullseye) on there guns?

What I have found is they started around 1922 and in the same time frame the Marlin Firearms Corp. was formed and went bankrupt A year later and was auctioned off. Frank Kenna won the auction with A $100 bid and assumed the ownership and $100,000 debt. There was nothing specific about why the Bullseye was added.

Thanks

Update:

The bullseye is on the walnut stocks only.

Yes, aren't they just wonderful! I've owned a 336 in 35 Remington and a 444S in 444 Marlin; and the plastic bullseye fell out of both of them, leaving a simple hole in the bottom of my wooden stock.

    What a great idea.

    From the Marlin F.A.Q.'s webpage...

"12. What is the small round black and white dot on the bottom of my Marlin stock?

This is the Marlin "Bullseye". This trademark has been used since 1922 on all Marlin walnut buttstocks. Please note that this is not a suitable place to install a swivel for you firearm. Swivels should be mounted approximately 2 inches from the toe of the butt.
