Breastfeeding my one year old. She refuses to drink whole cows milk ?
I have been offering it to her in a sippy at least once a day for at least a week. She really doesn't drink anything from a sippy-not water, not juice, nothing. Basically the only fluids she gets are from my breast milk. She will drink breast milk from a bottle. I tried milk in the bottle-she refused it. I know to just keep offering her the milk and eventually she will take it. --but suggestions are welcome!! My main question is this: I have never left her for longer than a hair appointment. I am going on a girls night away in a couple of weeks. One night, two hours away. I am nervous but I AM GOING!! :) I really really am SO OVER pumping. Do I really need to pump bottles for her to have while I am gone? If she is still refusing the milk I guess I have no choice, right? I plan on continuing to nurse her at least through the winter/flu season. I will pump while I am gone to keep up my supply, but was thinking she could just have whole milk from a cup or bottle while I was away. Now it appears she has other plans ;) What would you nursing mothers do? Like i said she really doesn't drink anything from a cup-I have tried all kinds. She only drinks from me or a bottle of breast milk. I have never tried breast milk in a sippy---but that would require3 extra pumping.....So many questions...sorry!
But I want to keep nursing her too!! I know she does not "need" whole milk if she is nursing. But the days I will be gone, what should I do? Also, any other advice to get her to drink milk, or anything for that matter from a cup?
She will be home with her much adored Daddy and her two older brothers. She will be fine. I would never have both my husband and I gone overnight. She will be in excellent hands and I honestly don't think she will miss me until bed time..... myself on the other hand will miss all 4 of them like crazy the entire 36 hours I am gone!!

Technically you can wean a baby at one year. That means they no longer "need" breastmilk or a breastmilk replacement. So you could wean to food and water, there's not really anything special about cow's milk.
You are going to need to pump while you are gone or risk mastitis or a breast abscess, and no one wants that. You may as well pump for her to have milk while you are gone, its going to be hard enough for her not to have you. You have lots of time to pump milk, just pump as soon as you get up (or even just the other breast while she nurses first thing) and pump once before bed and I bet you will have plenty.
Have you tried water in an open top cup or a straw? A lot of breastfed babies don't like sippy cups; and the current suggestion from dentists, speech pathologists, etc is that if you are going to use sippy cups at all use them for as short a time as possible.
I just nurse, they all start taking water eventually. And I plan to nurse until they wean. As long as they are nursing I know I don't have to worry as much about their fat, protein, zinc and calcium intake. I also would die if I was away from my kids for a night, two hours and I get panicky -that's just me and its not a judgement about your parenting; but for me its simply inconceivable.

I say try the breast milk in a sippy. I know pumping is a drag (mine's only 3 months and i'm about to return to work...let the fun begin), but it can't hurt to try. You might even let her watch you pour your breast milk from her bottle into a sippy cup so that she knows what's in there. I don't know, but like I said, it's worth a shot.

Don't offer her anything except from a sippy. She will break down eventually and use it. Ask any pediatrician: A child will not starve herself. She'll won't use the sippy as long as you keep giving her breast milk as an alternative.

My older daughter did that. Will yours drink something in a cup? What approximately water? What approximately watering it down? definite, flavoring in many circumstances works, yet then you quite've have been given a combat to shrink out the sugar later. I gave my daughter clean milk on a daily basis (chilly, I wasn't going to warmth it up each and every time), and she or he finally began ingesting it.try skipping it for a mutually as, then offering it back. try cream cheese (have they have been given guffawing cow cheese the place you reside?), and different mushy cheeses. My daughter hated the complicated cheeses (cheddar and mozzerella) till finally she develop into way older. And pudding cups are solid now and back too! solid good fortune!

it is easier to do a slow transition..in a bottle start mixing breast milk with whole milk.say if she drinks 5 oz normally start 4oz breast and 1 oz whole milk. then start 3oz breast and 2oz whole..and then down until she is fully on whole milk.id start giving her juice in a sippy get her use to it that way children love juice its sweeter but water it down some.hope it works!!

you don't have to force the cow's milk on her.....she never needs to drink it ever anyways......it's okay, really....mammals were not mean to drink another mammal's milk beyond weaning
i say go on ahead and pump for your big night out.....you have done a good job over the last year and you deserve it mama!!......but don't put so much pressure on yourself beforehand.....just pump and leave her some of mama's milk while you are away
