  • Beach vacation destination?

Trying to book a beach vacation for just my husband and myself. We are going in mid October. We would like it to be warm (looking into south florida for that reason) We do not want to leave the continental US. Can you help me find the following;??

Hotel/resort ON the beach (not within walking distance or free transport to, we want to be on the beach)

    Private balconey off our room

    Nice beach

And something to do within walking distance other than the bars and the beach. We plan on hitting the bars and beach plenty of times but would like some other activities too. Maybe Art Galleries, etc. We will not be renting a car.

We have stayed in St Petersburg in the past and loved it. Trolley downtown for galleries etc.

We have stayed in Fort Myers Beach and we liked it , but nothing to do but the bars and the beach. And it rained for 3 days so we had nothing to do.

I need ideas for our next trip!! Can you help? We do not want a big city feel. Still want the small town coziness.

    Thanks for all your help!

  • Can you smoke in the bars in Florida?

Going to Florida with a large group of people. Some are wondering about the smoking ban in florida. Can you smoke in restaurants? Bars? Outside? What about outside bars? If you are in a smokefree bar can you take your drink outside with you to smoke? We live in Michigan and you cannot take your drink outside the bar with you, and smoking is not allowed in the bars. Thank you for your help!

  • What tent should I buy?

Looking to buy a tent. In addition to myself and my husband we have two boys, ages 5 and 7, and a baby girl, age 15 months. I know I want a big "family" tent, with a screen porch. I have narrowed it down to 3, after researching on line. The price difference is big. One is only $150.00 and one is almost $400.00. Are certain brands better than others? What features should I look for? Thanks!

  • Why does everyone think this about infant car seats?

that if you are using an infant car seat you are carrying the baby around in it? I mean when the baby is tiny of course you carry the actual seat in and out of places. It is so easy especially when baby is sleeping. I have read a lot of questions/answers about the newer infant seats that have higher weight limits. People tend to say something along the lines of "how would you carry a 30 pound baby around in the infant seat", or "can you imagine carrying a 35 baby in the infant seat?" I mean, just because the infant seat can come out of the base and be carried doesn't mean you have to. My baby used her infant seat for a long time. I stopped taking it out of the base and carrying her in it long before she reached the 30 pound weight limit. You can use an infant seat and leave it in the car just like a convertible. You do not have to take it out and carry the child in it. Just take the baby out and leave the seat in the vehicle. Right? So why do most people think you are using it as a carrier also?

Sorry, I just had to ask, this bothers me :)

I am a certified child passenger safety technician so I am all about keeping the baby rear facing for as long as possible.

  • Breastfeeding my one year old. She refuses to drink whole cows milk ?

I have been offering it to her in a sippy at least once a day for at least a week. She really doesn't drink anything from a sippy-not water, not juice, nothing. Basically the only fluids she gets are from my breast milk. She will drink breast milk from a bottle. I tried milk in the bottle-she refused it. I know to just keep offering her the milk and eventually she will take it. --but suggestions are welcome!! My main question is this: I have never left her for longer than a hair appointment. I am going on a girls night away in a couple of weeks. One night, two hours away. I am nervous but I AM GOING!! :) I really really am SO OVER pumping. Do I really need to pump bottles for her to have while I am gone? If she is still refusing the milk I guess I have no choice, right? I plan on continuing to nurse her at least through the winter/flu season. I will pump while I am gone to keep up my supply, but was thinking she could just have whole milk from a cup or bottle while I was away. Now it appears she has other plans ;) What would you nursing mothers do? Like i said she really doesn't drink anything from a cup-I have tried all kinds. She only drinks from me or a bottle of breast milk. I have never tried breast milk in a sippy---but that would require3 extra pumping.....So many questions...sorry!

  • Breastfeedin Moms..what will you do?

I plan on weaning my daughter from breastfeeding at around one year old. She has never had formula. Should I put her on whole milk or the "new" "toddler" formula?? I plan on asking he pediatrician at her next appointment, but was just looking for what others are going to do. With my other children it was just straight to whole milk, there was no push for the toddler formula. Thanks ahead of time!!

  • Breatfeeding mothers. What would you do?

My daughter is 10.5 months old. I nurse her on demand. I have never counted but I would say maybe 6-8 times per day. The problem is that she still gets up during the night at least one time. If it is one time that is a really good night. She nurses and goes right back to sleep, then I put her back in her crib. I really don't mind because she is so good, but I am tired and feel like she does not need to eat during the night. I plan on weaning her around one year old and just don't know how since she is still getting up during the night. The day time feedings will be "easy" to take away, but these night time ones??? My husband tries to go rock her back to sleep but she will have nothing to do with it, as soon as he brings her to me she latches on and nurses herself back to sleep. What to do???

  • Can a baby under the age of one have foods that...?

contain eggs? I know they cannot have egg whites until they are one. But what about foods that contain eggs? For example, tonight I made homemade waffles. There are eggs in them. Without thinking I gave some to my daughter, who will be 9 months on Saturday.

But other table foods they eat must contain eggs too, waffles, pancakes, muffins, etc etc. So are we supposed to really read the ingredients list and if if contains eggs don't give?? This is my third child, you would think I would know these things :) But this did not cross my mind until now. What do you do??

  • I have asked this before, but posting again (about breastfed baby) ?

My almost 9 month old has never had formula. She does take an occasional bottle of breastmilk. I do not pump regularly as I rarely leave her. I do keep bottles of frozen breastmilk in case something comes up. Sometimes it is hard (not complaining, just stating a fact) to plan the rare date or girls night out. I have to make sure I have milk thawing, pump ahead of time, etc. I never know how much to take out, etc. I know you can thaw it under warm water right before feeding, but having it ready makes it easier on Dad or the sitter, and eases my mind that it is going to be easier on them. My question is, is it okay to start giving her an occasional bottle of formula? I know she may not like it, but I would wean her onto it slowly. Maybe putting a bit in her cereal or in a sippy. Is this okay, and is it wrong for me to want to do this? I plan on nursing her until 18 months old, this would just be a once in a while thing.....What do you other mommys think? I hope I get some answers this time!! Thanks!!! and be honest!!!

  • My breastfed baby ...?

My baby is 8 months old. She has never had formula. She eats cereal and baby food. I have milk in the freezer in case I leave her, which is very rare. My husband and i recently found a really good sitter, and like to enjoy a night out once in a while. I also like an occasional night out with girlfriends. Sometimes things come up last minute and I would like to go. I am by no means complaining, my kids are my life, they are number one. My question is would it be bad if i gave my daughter an occasional bottle of formula if I don't have time to plan ahead and pump or to thaw out frozen milk? I feel like it would be for selfish reasons so I should not do it. What do you mommies think? My other children had occasional formula but this time it feels different. Maybe cause i am older and wiser??? wwyd??

  • Can I wear these shoes?

Can I wear closed-toe heels with shorts? Like a pair of white cotton shorts (not dressy but not denim either) with a black dress shirt? The only black shoes I have (besides flip flops) are closed toe pump style heels...Is this okay?

  • Drinking and breastfeeding?

Why do some people insist you cannot drink alcohol if you are breastfeeding? You are allowed to have 1-2 drinks with no worries at all, but you can have more than that if you want. I have read that you cannot take care of your baby if you are under the influence, and you cannot feed your baby if you have had more than 1-2 drinks, etc. Well, of course not, but there are ways around this. If I want to have more than 1-2 drinks, I will not be around my children for one thing, and for another I would have a trusted, caring, responsible adult caring for my children while I am away, and for a third, I would leave bottles of expressed milk for my baby to drink until my system has cleared any alcohol. If you do all of those things you most certainly can go out and have drinks with no guilt. There is no reason not to as long as you have all your responsibilities covered at home. So, my question is why do most web sites/people, etc say one or two drinks is okay but make you feel like a horrible mother if you want an occasional night out with the girls. I breastfed all my children but still enjoy an occasional night out.
